I think I notice it more on debate posts? I haven't been on here long so I may be only seeing a fraction of posts to be honest.

Some of the most vicious debates on CF, occur in the Christian only section, where non-believers are not allowed.

You never thought the gospel was for sharing or worth standing up for.defending?

Things are often confused as holier than thou between even Christians, and very often because the sayer has no other defense against a truth they don't like. But for the moment I'll give benefit of the doubt and ask for a detailed example of what you mean by treating them like muck?

No, I won't ignore Atheists who tell lies of some type, or attempt to get believers to believe there is no God, right here on a site where I assume, over time, many visit. You can ignore if you like, but some of us simply won't/can't keep quiet at a time like that.

Not sure what exactly you saw but I do question the validity of what you say is even close to the general rule.

Muck as in less than human or not worth talking to.

IMHO You can't get a true believerto un-believe in God...

I'm not broad brushing here either just gave seen this pattern in the past and made me think.

Yes possibly very true at times. But you should acknowledge as well that there are times when Jesus just laid it down straight in no uncertain terms to individuals who mockingly malign God and his message. Jesus wasn't always nicey, nicey.

Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep. Luke 6:25

And then a pretty strong thing The Apostle Paul once stated,

Then Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked directly at Elymas and said "O child of the devil and enemy of all righteousness! You are full of all kinds of deciet and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the straight ways of the Lord? Acts 3:10

Notice that it states Paul was "filled with the Holy Spirit" when he stated these thing. I think there are times when even us Christians aren't as filled with the Holy Spirit as we should. We may not have properly prayed as we should have maybe to start off the day so our actions and words aren't necessarily God inspired. Yapping off or speaking down at a non-believer in such times may be totally out of line because you're not in the Spirit strong enough to know how ticked off God is or isn't about certain individuals. Our actions and words should be born of revelation from God to our spirits.

Yes I agree with this thank you for sharing that. I don't like the mocking God stuff it hurts to hear.

And that would have been called holier than thou by those on the receiving end, when it has nothing to do with that, always the way. It's much more often than not, at least in my view, a way of shifting the blame. People don't like being told what to do, or that they have done wrong/have to do right, so they redirect blame to whoever is speaking.

A lot like "Who are you to judge me?" another classic.

I personally don't listen to Christan music and that had raised eyebrows in the past. I dont listen to the bad stuff I used to listen too but not fond of modern Christian Music.

Oh, I'll listen to religious music without hesitation. If you haven't sat quietly and listened to Palestrina or Biebl or Laruridsen, I honestly think you're missing out. Or some modern acapella arrangements of traditional hymns and chants or spirituals. Some is quite breathtaking.

CCM, on the other hand, meh. Don't care for it one bit.

Good, glad you don't see it as the rule here.

And wrong or right, some of these nasty Christians have been in arguments from some of the nastiest atheists on the planet, and that's just online, so who knows exactly why they act as they do.

I have seen some nasty stuff from "Christians" on here towards them.
We need to always clearly separate attacks on any person from rejection of their belief system in the light of Scripture. The exposure and rejection of false beliefs is in fact the most loving thing a Christian can do, while presenting Gospel truth and Bible truth.

And, how do you go about determining whether a belief is false?

Boilerplate Reponse:
If *I* believe it, it is obviously true and inspired by the indwelling of the Spirit within me which means I cannot be wrong. *You* on the other hand, are probably wrong, because I disagree and I have the Spirit indwelling within me, so I cannot be wrong.

In short: I'm right, you're wrong, and if you were a RealTrue Christian you'd be agreeing with me and therefore you'd be right.

Or at least that's how I've heard it explained. Over. And over.

Anything which lines up with Gospel truth and Bible truth is intrinsically true because it is GOD'S REVELATION TO MAN. If God says "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved" every human being on the face of the earth must take that seriously.

The opposite of saved is lost, and the end result of "lost" is eternal damnation:

He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. (John 3:36)

We have a myriad of different interpretations of the gospels, hence so many denominations of Christianity.

How does one determine which interpretation is correct?

As Christian myself speaking: I did not realize how many atheists are here. I think this is great!

I have seen some nasty stuff from "Christians" on here towards them. I have to wonder how this is showing the light and love of Christ? How can anyone see Christ in us if we respond like the world? I am not condemning anyone in this post it just got me thinking.

I just felt awful seeing people treat them like muck. Christ came to the lost which WE ALL ONCE WERE! Never forget our beginnings!

I pray that we ask guidance of the Lord before we post, we never know who is watching!

*Another thing that is even confusing for me as a Baby Christian is dealing with all the different sub groups of Christianity & their unique denominations & takes on the Bible, faith & theology: Calvinist, Baptist, Anabaptist, Pentecostal, Lutheran, Arminian, Messianic, Anglican, Orthodox, the list goes ONNNN and ONNNN

And each of these groups think THEY are the right way when truly it is CHRIST who is the only way and Truth. (Not bashing my fellow brothers & sisters in those above groups just making an observation) I love the bretheran.

^
It was a job to study all this stuff, so I am sure this is overwhelming for a new believer or even an atheist..

Lets pray for those who come against us and those who don't.

I do not wish to argue in this thread so please no hateful statements from atheists or Christians.

Try not to take it to heart. It's a very natural, very human thing to want others to agree with you...especially on matters of pure belief, or interpretation, or doubt. It lends in the person arguing their viewpoint a certain sort of false validity.

We all have different perspectives, which we arrive at independently. What better way then to see that it's not just a matter of perspective than to have others confirm what you believe?

So try not to hold it against them...though it may be very "worldly", to use a term they dislike.

I’m not an atheist and I always get called worldly because I understand basic mainstream science. In order to be approved by those sort of Christians, I’d have to be pig ignorant of both science and history. I’m a feminist and they tell me I have to submit to a man . In order to be approved by these sorts of Christians , I’d have to act either like I’m mentally retarded or like a small child . I’m an artist and I like to dance, paint, sew and make other things . According to those sort of Christians, I’m bad because I’m not being boring and plain or they accuse me of associating with non-boring people. I prefer not being around those sort of Christians because I think they’re toxic . Atheists in general tend to be better behaved and they act like they have some common sense instead of worrying and I mean WORRYING about unprovable dogmas that affect very few people. Though I disagree about belief in God with an atheist, I’ve never had one jump down my throat about it.

Have you had them PM you about how they "know what you are" and how they're going to "blow your cover" yet? Because let me tell you, that's ALWAYS a blast.

I never thought all biblical dogmas should be defended ( some are abusive and degrading to women and/or children .some are superstitious nonsense about natural phenomena . And then there’s the gay bashing which I think is wrong and stupid just on GEneral principles
I’m the wrong one to ask to defend these.

I've gotten that here on science, mental illness, and whether I worship The Dark One because of my avatar. Their evidence is usually "Because I said so."

Occasionally, "Because I read something on InfoWars."

It's baffling and maybe a bit frustrating.
