Not with the intention to convert!??

;)

A lot of people think i am trying to get people on my side and believe everything i say. That is not what i want at anytime anywhere or any place. The best way to be a true atheist, in my personal view, is to find your own path and believe in ones self. Sorry if i offended you.

Wait, WHAT!?

You actually use Bing.com willingly? Obviously, you're a satanist lying about being an atheist!

Hahaha that made me chuckle a little, but yeah i do not really have a reason for it but at times i do use google.com

I consider myself a true atheist because i did not become an atheist because my parents were nor because people i am around me told me to be one and that it is the right answer. I experienced life, studied, and gave every religion an equal chance. So i say a true atheist because it was my own choice and i do not listen to every person i hear because they have an opinion. I ask question on why they think. I understand euphemisms almost everywhere i go, but not saying i am perfect at it.

Oops, I didn't make myself clear - that's my fault. I meant something more like this: what do you think makes someone a true atheist? What was it you chose to become on the basis of your experience, etc.?

well, the reason why most people are the religion they believe, such as christian in usa, is because family friends and society, to be a true atheist is not easy as 2+2. But being a true anything is the point. Other than others telling you what to know believe and think, i think everyone should experience life and study in to things to come up with a real answer that makes since to them. So i did not really choose atheism, to me it just was the most logical rational answer.

No no - again, I'm sorry that I haven't made myself clear. I mean, what has to be true about someone before it is accurate to call them a true atheist? I'm not trying to ask about what events cause someone to be a true atheist, or what reasons they have for being a true atheist, but I am rather asking what it is about them which makes it true that they are a true atheist. What is your definition of a true atheist?

My apologies for the continued misunderstanding...

But seriously, Bing sucks.

Microsoft diverts searches to MSDN. It filters and censors searches based on what big brother Gates thinks. It even loads cookies onto your computer that "business partners" will read and charge you more when you buy stuff from them. They probably split the extra profit with Microsoft.

And on the back end, the actual search engine that works it's magic before their own filters is just yahoo. They just came to an agreement about who gets what slice of advertising revenue.

Bing is a goliath's attempt at muscling their way through sheer political force into a field which is their main competitor's main source of fame/revenue. One in which they rose up the ranks through constant innovation.

From what I can tell it has no redeeming qualities, and powers an evil empire.

I think it is me so no worries.

Basically, i guess it is that true to you, without any bias, as much as possible, and everything makes sense in ones own mind. So being a true atheist is not the ability to reject every thought of a god, but to ask questions, learn from life, and being a true atheist is one who does not believe in god and understands why they think this way and not because others tell them why

hope this helps, sorry for being difficult

Man i give you props for knowing that, if it is true and not saying your wrong i just do not know, but corporations making money by placing bets on what people type in on google.com's search engine. I came to the conclusion that no matter what i do i am doing it wrong, so my friend, what search engine type do you think i should use? And i do really want to know

And i hate to be rude but this is to help people understand atheism a little bit better or ask me personal questions pertaining to my belief. I am sorry

[...] being a true atheist is one who does not believe in god and understands why they think this way and not because others tell them why

OK, thanks. Now I want to ask, what is it that the true atheist is not believing in, which you are labeling with the word 'god'?

For example, I might say that an aglarfist is someone who does not believe in glarf and understands why they think this way and not because others tell them why. However, what is the glarf they don't believe in? I would have to define that to make myself understood, and it wouldn't help at all if I said it was the same as phang or grawp.

A unicorn is a one-horned critter of some type, probably a horse-like critter, maybe one which can only be approached by virgins. So an a-unicornist is someone who doesn't think unicorns exist, and a unicornist is someone who does think there are some.

Well then, you are asking for the definition of the word god, in which i stated i do not believe in.

So i don not believe in there in a higher power that created everything, knows everything, or can do anything it wanted. but...

One of the things i learned through college is that if something is claimed to be true, one can not defend that it is true by challenging another that it is not true.

I can tell you i have hair. If you were to ask me if i really did i can prove to you by showing you. If i told you i drive a cadillac and you ask me to prove it, i can not say "prove that i do not." i just said it and i did not prove it to you but challenged you to prove me wrong, that does not mean i really drive a cadalliac.

Yes, precisely, I was asking which sort of thing it is that you don't think exists.

So i don not believe in there in a higher power that created everything, knows everything, or can do anything it wanted. but...

So when you say you are an atheist, you simply mean all of the following:
(A) There is no higher power that created everything
(B) There is no higher power that knows everything
(C) There is no higher power that can do anything it wants

Is that right? I'm just trying to get it precisely right, it's not that there is anything wrong with your questions. I just wanted to take advantage of the 'ask the atheist' offer, you know?

I can tell you i have hair. If you were to ask me if i really did i can prove to you by showing you. I'm not about to play "burden tennis" here - I'm not asking you to justify what you do or don't believe, my only questions were about exactly what it was that you were claiming about yourself when you said you were a true atheist. :)

If you have a question, challenge, or anything that has to do with atheism/ christianity you can post it here i am a true atheist i want to not only learn more about this subject, but study why people will believe certain things along with putting my thoughts open for questioning, please take this seriously, if you want to bash me and call me names go ahead i have been an atheist for a while now and i live in the bible belt, so please ask/state away.....

i was reading some of the questions and responses in the thread...and i got to thinkin'...do you have something similar to a testimony of how you came to believe there is no God, or why you chose atheism?

Well i guess i point is you have to ask if i believe in something first. So if you ask me do i believe in god and i ask you what your definition of a god is, if i say no, the discussion can not continue with why do you not believe in the god i explained to you. Because if one is imposing that something is there and believes it, one must also prove other than me trying to explain that one is wrong by explaining nothing, that is way too broad of a topic

And no i do not want to play Burden tennis with you, if these are real questions, i will give you real answers i promise i am not out to get you.

Like i said i lived life, there is no one time that magically turned me into an atheist. If that is true than i am not really an atheist cause i do not know why i believe in what i believe

And also like i said before, a true atheist does not chose, they think. Just like a true christian does not chose they think. That is where the belief comes in. a true anything is able to answer any questions and understand why they believe what they believe. Atheism is what i found to be the most logical answer.

A Christian actually does choose. Thinking is involved, of course, but the choosing is not based on that solely. It is based on something that can, to the naked light of logic, appear illogical and foolish. It is something called faith that seals our belief and emblazons it into the inner recesses of our hearts, minds, and souls. Belief in this God and our love for this God we believe in becomes our passion. It's like choosing a road and walking that road because it's the reason for our existence. It's in sync with the lyrics to this song:

Joy in the Journey:

There is a joy in the journey
There's a light we can love on the way
There is a wonder and wildness to life
And freedom for those who obey

And all those who seek it shall find it
A pardon for all who believe
Hope for the hopeless and sight for the blind

To all who've been born in the Spirit
And who share incarnation with Him
Who belong to eternity stranded in time
And weary of struggling with sin

Forget not the hope that's before you
And never stop counting the cost
Remember the hopelessness when you were lost

There is a joy in the journey
There's a light we can love on the way
There is a wonder and wildness to life
And freedom for those who obey

And freedom for those who obey...

And to me and most atheist that is the wrong way to do that. If one day one can be a christian than in an any amount of time one "chooses" to change their beliefs than they are doing it wrong. A choice is something you decide on, when it comes to belief what is right and wrong, that can not be a choice that is belief.

Faith is a word i actually have a problem with. For two reasons:
1. Euphemism. one can call it faith and mistaken it with blind faith. When one believes in something they have never seen or any proof of, would be classified as blind faith

2. "Faith is believing something you know ain't true." - Mark Twain

"The way to see by faith is to shut the eye of reason." - Benjamin Franklin
or the way i would say it "Faith is a lazy mans way to think he has the answer"
