• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Not to mention how much more complicated it gets when there´s no evidence for the existence of peanut butter, bread and jelly. ^_^

look in the fridge, and you see it plainly. If you live with a closed mind and a closed door. You will not.

Haahaaa. Sorry. This says it all.

Can also be translated to "Use easier reasoning. Reality is too difficult to understand."

the best teachers use logic, not big words to relay a message because they WANT people to understand. If you DON'T want people to follow you, use big words that no one knows. It simply shows your intent to hide truth not relay truth.

I couldn't find a difficult word in the post that you responded to. So using intelligent, adult language is deliberately misleading others? Really? I'd just put it down to a decent vocabulary and a little intellect.

predilection was a bad choice of words. if you want people to understand your message you the shortest sentences as possible and simple wordage. I for one have never heard of predilection and found it time consuming to look it up. If you want to confuse and avoid the issue keep using large words. If your debate is sound you don't need to cover it up with verbage and semantics.

It's a very nice word, in my opinion. Time consuming? To copy and paste it into Google, and hit the dictionary link? Hang on. Going to time it. Took 5 seconds. So what you're saying is, if you use decent words in a debate, then you must be trying to hide something? Where on earth do you get that logic from? If someone started typing sentences in Latin, then there might be a problem, however, that's hardly the case. I'm imagining that the poster was simply assuming that we all have a degree of intellect, and have finished primary school.

Be encouraged my brother.

Keep up the good fight and lay hold of eternal life unto which you were called.

You have encouraged me by your faithfulness and diligence in the work you do here in these forums.

Do not lose heart.

Remember that no one is going to become a child of God by self-will, or exertion, or effort, or by winning or losing an argument.

All that are His shall come to Him so be encouraged.

That signature really is monstrous. Disregarding its content, the font-size alone is ridiculous. Do you really need to take up half of a page to make a point? It's a complete lack of common courtesy in regard to others on the forum, to have a signature of such monumental proportions. If you really believe in it, are the power of the words not enough? It's like owning a 50ft crucifix and planting it outside your house.

What would you have me do with my signature?

Make it smaller - in a normal font size! It takes up my entire screen. I'm not interested in the content - I haven't even read it, the size makes it almost illegible; it's the size of the font that's irritating.

Semantics has nothing to do with it. Your claim that anyone who uses decent words in their argument, must be trying to cover up or deceive, is absolute nonsense. So every book that's written with proper use of language, is attempting to conceal something? Every academic paper? Language is there for a reason - to be used. By your reasoning, we should abandon long words and simplify our language, because speaking and writing correctly means that we're covering up some hideous truth.

shud we all rite like dis?

I have heard debates before, and it seems that those who use large words (just to use them) -are compensating for something. Like a lack of argument.
