  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Alright, moving along smoothly...

So we see that God can reveal Himself to us if He so desired, good.

Now, this revealing of Himself could be said to be Him "communicating" to us, would you agree?

Sure

How many times do I have to explain the poisoning the well fallacy to you?

To address your post... No, it's not.

Please refer to any one of my many posts about this particular fallacy to find out why it isn't. I'm getting sick of repeating myself when you throw out fallacy accusations when none exist.

so your the only one who knows what a fallacy is?

how about an abusive ad hominem?

is that more suitable to your insulting remarks?

I see exasperated comments, due to a merry-go-round argument; not insulting remarks. It is difficult to participate in a debate in which one person uses vacuous pedantry as a way of communicating.

Yes, however if the Jesus story is true, that means he was identified at birth as the messiah by the three wise men.
If it is true!
Of course, the dates for the birth of Zarathustra (Zoroaster) range between 1800 to 600 BCE, and three magi attended his birth, bringing gifts also. What's more, a wicked king, having heard the magi foretell that Zarathustra would be mightier than the king, tried to have him killed.

All this was BCE mind you.

I'm not the only one who knows what a fallacy is. All I stated is that you commonly mislabel things as fallacies, that aren't.

I have explained in detail to you in previous threads what these fallacies are, and yet you still mislabel them.

It's not an abusive ad hominem either... it's a statement of fact.

No question, I don't believe the Jesus story is true. I was arguing from within the framework of the myth to point out the silliness of it.

My point was that the story of the three magi attending the birth of a prophet/hero predated Jesus. So, it is not just silly, its plagiarized!

That's not the only thing that's been plagiarized in the Bible and Christian Religion :)

When ‘Omer smote ‘is bloomin’ lyre

When ‘Omer smote ‘is bloomin’ lyre,
He’d ‘eard men sing by land an’ sea;
An’ what he thought ‘e might require,
‘E went an’ took – the same as me!

The market-girls an’ fishermen,
The shepherds an’ the sailors, too,
They ‘eard old songs turn up again,
But kep’ it quiet – same as you!

They knew ‘e stole; ‘e knew they knowed.
They didn’t tell, nor make a fuss,
But winked at ‘Omer down the road,
An’ ‘e winked back – the same as us!'

-- Rudyard Kipling

Of course it is one thing to plagiarize a bit of fiction. It is something else to try and pass it off as true, and base social policy on it.

You're saying there are no historical writings that talk of Gods that other cultures worshiped?

You're serious?

You must be trolling.... you can't honestly be arguing points like this, it's simply flat out laughably wrong.

abusive ad hominem,

all you need to say is....

it's wrong.

not "laughably wrong"

abusive ad hominem.

An argument from popularity fallacy works?

No... it doesn't. That's why it's a fallacy.

then know that saying something is "laughably wrong" is an abusive ad hominem!
