  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It helps to make a distinction between being born again and being "saved" as in being delivered. Being born again is God's business. It is instantaneous and happens when we receive Christ as the full and sole propitiation for our sin. If there is no conviction of sin, there is no born again reality. This is why so many children of Christians turn away as they get older. They were never born again in the first place.

The on-going process of deliverance is three fold (the simplified version!). First, we need spiritual knowledge, which comes through preaching, teaching, and personal study of God's word. It has to be imparted by the Holy Spirit - revelation. Intellectual acceptance or mental assent will be fruitless.

Second, we need deliverance from the habits and ingrained memory of sin, of formed opinions that are false, and of the natural powers of the soul. This is a work that God performs also, but requires our cooperation. This is what it means to carry the cross daily.

Third, we need deliverance from entrenched lies, and deceptions implanted by evil spirits. We need deliverance from pride, independence, rebellion and stubbornness. We need deliverance from any evil spirit that afflicts us.

We need to remember that Salvation is God's business. Our part is to seek God so that we may be set free. Complacency is the deadly enemy of Christian growth and maturity. It's a lifetime process and never will we be able to say that we are perfected in this lifetime. Those who think they stand are on the precipice of a fall.

Statistically, it would be rare for a person to abandon their religion in their later years.
Not so. I entered heaven the moment I was born again. I'm seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus - right now. We need to make God's word the absolute authority in our lives.

The point I think I am truly saved is the moment Jesus Christ rescues me from hell and I just pray that He has heard my prayers, can see my heart, knows my repentance and can feel my love for Him for that to happen. I am not worthy of heaven- I realize this as I have made some big mistakes and done some pretty bad things but I have tried to make amends with those things and better myself as much as I can. I used to be quite popular with the wrong " earthly" crowd which I have abandoned and have sort of " quit" the world, and battle depression but have overcome a lot and just keep trying.

Excuse me but my remark has nothing to do with yours.

This question could be taken too far one way or the other. We are not saved purely by being called, we must be faithful, but neither are we saved by "being faithful (works)".

Salvation is enlightenment, we are given sight by God, He shows us our need for Himself, and draws us to accept His salvation. He may do this multiple times.

Job 36:10-11 Their ear is open to his teaching, and he gives them orders so that their hearts may be turned from evil. If they give ear to his voice, and do his word, then he gives them long life, and years full of pleasure.

Job 33:29 Truly, God does all these things to man, twice and three times,

Once we accept salvation, God says that we are justified, by that act.

Joh 3:18 The man who has faith in him does not come up to be judged; but he who has no faith in him has been judged even now, because he has no faith in the name of the only Son of God.

However, it is possible for a person to lose their salvation, free justification if they do not remain "faithful". (Hebrews 6)

Basically, a person can become blind to the truth of the availability of salvation if they desire sin more than right living before God.

2Th 2:11-12 And for this cause, God will give them up to the power of deceit and they will put their faith in what is false: So that they all may be judged, who had no faith in what is true, but took pleasure in evil.

So it is God's desire that we live in His ways, remain "faithful", otherwise if we desire sin more than God, we can become blind to the saving power of the cross. And wander permanently from the truth.

I had the 'born again' experience so I'm going with the Amazing Grace lyric 'the hour I first believed. ' I felt compelled and was baptized not long after. The baptism was in the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and a full immersion but in non- flowing presumably chlorinated water (tap water.) I have a certificate to prove it. Some will say that baptism didn't count, others say I lack the crismation, or the laying on of hands, or it wasn't Bishop approved and no Holy Spirit presided.

The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. - Romans 10:8-10

Two things....

1. Confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus Christ
2. Believe in your heart that God hath raised him from the dead

And... You are saved! And then time to dive into all the complicated doctrine the Gentiles have introduced to Christianity since!

Well that's what Paul said; but who listens to him?

How can we have church division with people like you around.

The important thing is my church interpretation of the scripture.

At What Point Do You Think You Are Truly Saved?
Hello ChristServant, I believe that we are saved from the moment that we first hear and believe, from the moment that we come to saving faith in Jesus and are justified (declared just) by God. As the Lord Jesus tells us,

John 5
24 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, ~has~ eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

God bless you!

As I have said a dozen times on this website, there are Scripture verses both for and against the OSAS doctrine. Certainly any independent Bible scholar who has an open mind knows such to be true. Hence, it seems prudent to me that we should err on the side of safety and not assume that we are all automatically saved, simply because we have asked Jesus to save us. We do not become robots when we become Christians and lose our free will. Certainly there have been Christians throughout history who have lost their faith due to any number of circumstances, most especially probably the loss of young children or a like tragic event. There is very little evidence, if any at all, that the Early Church believed in OSAS. To the contrary, the Early Church was so concerned about the possibility of losing one's salvation after adult Baptism, that they had very stringent rules at one time to punish people who committed grave sins after Baptism, like keeping them away from the Eucharist for 10 years. I think that this applied in some areas to Christians who took the life of another person.

Dare we forget the warning in Matthew 24:13? "He who who perseveres to the end, will be saved", implying that if we fail to persevere to the end, that we will not be saved.

The church the apostles established.
There is NO "Visible CHurch System" that bears much resemblance at all to the "Apostolic Church" which was already starting to fragment and denominationalize in Paul's time.

God is not mocked. God's forgiveness is not based on the value of your apology.

Your regeneration, your changed heart, your source of living water, your everlasting faith by the work of the Holy Spirit, having become one with Christ, will not allow you to continue in sin. So don't. Maybe you will find you too are one of his. Pursue Christ.
