Why do people assume that moderation is the same as ruling?

1. I like it that nonChristians can post in the congregational forums without the thread having to be coded for it, BUT I strongly feel that only the congregational members should be allowed to debate in those forums, and that nonTrinitarian views should not be promoted.

2. I like how the overall site rules are shaping up now BUT in some ways the rule book is too thick. Different rules for different forums and all kinds of protocals for every little thing - it has not gotten simpler! it is getting more complicated by the day!

In other ways, the rule book is lacking. Language has gotten worse!

Too much is changed at the same time which has caused chaos. And the Wiki is so intimating that many members are hanging back. There are too many wikis - who can keep up and work reports and interactin the forums and get the moderators nominated, etc. It is VERY overwhelming.


3. I didn't like warnings/infractions BUT some folks are just trolls. Some folks will not behave and will continue to flame and harrass and chose to test the boundaries and overstep them.

4. I don't mind members reading the report threads, and have even appreciated input from members BUT some report threads have been flame fests so that there is even discussion in wiki about adding report buttons to posts in the report threads so that we would have to work reports on reports. Yikes!! And with the loss of staff, alot of reports are not being addressed. I really have an issue that member comments are anonymous! For true transparency, member names should be seen. There is concern about "protecting members" from retaliation - but staff are members too and are only volunteers, and apparently are fair game for retaliation.

5. Voting for mods seems a good idea, but it can turn into a popularity contest And there are no controls as to WHO is voting. How many votes are duplicated thanks to sock puppets? Or folks who just joined a particular forum? And I have already seen the threats/harrassment/flames leveled at those who are mods now in report threads because they disagree with how a mod sees things in a report.

6. I do not have a problem with nonChristians as mods as there is a place for them. I still think the majority of mods need to be Nicene Christians (in terms of the Trinity) .

7. We do need to have the definition of Christian for the purposes of this forum to be Trinitarian as defined in the Nicene Creed. Changing that was throwing the baby out with the bath water.

8. I don't care that the CR is open for to all to view. However, there are situations that need confidentiality and a private space is need for that.

It's not tyrannical ruling. A good moderator, however, does exercise leadership.

Choas Christian Forums sounds more like it. Christianity will always be running against the prevailing movement of society with individualistic views. Like in life, in Christianity, one size doesn't fit all! We must never forget that true Christianity is more than believing and teaching - it is a way of life that we are the "light of the world".

But since I do not believe that to be the case I went with option number 2. If it's going to be titled a Christian board, I think the rules should reflect that.

No. A good moderator serves the community.

95% of Americans claim to be Christian. How many actually are though?

Truth cannot be relative. Is that statement relative? Is that the truth? Stand firm in the truth which there can only be one.

"We are one in the spirit, we are one in the Lord. We are one in the spirit, we are one in the Lord. And we'll pray that our unity may one day be restored. And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love. Yes they'll know we are Christians by our love."

People will pick and choose a title on whether or not they are Christian or not, but a title doesn't make it that.

are you saying Erwin is being manipulated by a member who got banned and then un-banned in less than 24 hours by Erwin ?

I know God controls all things but drsteve doesn't!!!

1. A safe social community site with a heavy and strong Christian influence (with the vision being to offer a safe online community, and a secondary vision being to allow Christians to outreach to non-Christians) - which will allow for a name change;

OR

2. Return to a more restricted Christians-only site with a heavy emphasis on uniting mainstream Christians only with a less emphasis on outreach, in which case we keep the name.


Just take a look at that, I mean, I haven't even got a word to describe how off putting option 2 is, and I wonder why?

Yes. Of course, moderators now being elected, much like in a representational democracy might mean that under the new system they are expected to be MORE like leaders than under the old system. I could extrapolate that from how the whole new setup has been implemented with moderators only for specific fora and things like that.
