Indigenous people around the world, long before Christianity or the Bible was ever introduced to them, have had stories and prophecies about protecting the environment for thousands of years, passed down through oral traditions and storytelling.

It is something that God has put in the hearts of all indigenous people. It is where money conflicts with the environment that the environment losses. And it is big money involved here. It doesn't seem to get through that this is to protect the water for everyone, yes it hits Indians first, eventually, it will hit everyone else also. Indian lives matter also. All life does. This will affect wildlife also. We have done enough harm to people, land and wildlife. It is long past time to back off and protect.

117 arrests of UNARMED PEACEFUL Native American (and non-native) water protectors today who were violently attacked and forcibly removed by riot police and the National Guard. The riot police shot rubber bullets at water protectors (hitting one protector in the face) tased and maced multiple water protectors, pulled elders out of sweat lodges and tipis during prayer ceremonies, kicked and hit water protectors when the protectors were laying on the ground, eyewitness reports of a 15 year boy being shot at and his horse being shot and the wrist of a young girl being broken - ALL in response to them wanting to protect their water and their land from the construction of a oil pipeline. The land they are trying to protect is TREATY land.

Good morning, relatives. It is another day, which I am thankful to the Creator for, but the struggle for survival still continues in Standing Rock. I spent all day yesterday in a stunned state of mind as I watched the live video feeds and heard the eyewitness accounts from the front lines. I am still trying to process in my mind everything that happened yesterday in Standing Rock. It was a war zone yesterday in Standing Rock and it was this country's history with Native Americans being repeated again.

Thursday, October 27, 2016, more than 140 people, including 16 under the age of 18, were arrested at the protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline near the Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation. With media and live coverage shared by many people at the protests, the events recorded were described as no different than a war zone.

In addition to the arrests, hundreds of people were assaulted in an onslaught by law enforcement. The actions documented included the use of a Long Range Acoustic Device (LRAD), a sound device illegal in some countries in the world, the use of mace and pepper spray on hundreds of protestors including elders, discharging of firearms towards those on horseback, protester’s reporting broken ribs by police batons, and those in prayer being forcibly removed from a sweatlodge and violently thrown to the ground and arrested.

Absolutely no word on the violence at Standing Rock from either Trump or his campaign. But of course, he would not respond since he invests in the company behind DAPL. Hillary Clinton made a vague attempt to respond but it was pathetically weak.

And now here is the public response from Dr. Jill Stein and her presidential campaign.

The Stein/Baraka campaign is horrified and outraged at the militarized repression of water protectors at the Standing Rock reservation in North Dakota. Police and private security forces have engaged in violent actions against peaceful earth defenders who have come to protect the land and water from the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline.

We condemn the violent repression of the peaceful protests against DAPL as human rights abuses, including the use of attack dogs and pepper spray against peaceful demonstrators, the persecution of journalists, the authorization of weaponized drones, the disruption of prayer ceremonies, and the desecration of sacred burial sites. These are not the actions of public servants sworn to protect and serve the community, but the unconscionable oppression of an occupying army against the original inhabitants of this land.

The water protectors have invoked their rights under the 1851 Treaty of Fort Laramie, which grants the Sioux Nation sovereignty over the territory. A Stein/Baraka administration would honor the Sioux claims under this treaty, as well as the right to free, informed, and prior consent under the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. We call for an immediate halt to the construction of the pipeline and all attempts on the part of the police to remove the water protectors.
