It would appear that the biggest problem in masturbation is what thoughts are going through the mind of the person. Sexual desires are private, and who knows if a fantasy could involve perversions detrimental to God or even the person. If a person had a shoe fetish would it be lust of the flesh, for example?

In the realm of pornography, it would have to be sinful, because you would be supporting a field that is against moral values. God would rather see the money go to the poor than to a Playboy magazine.

With this said, like anything that is done by Christians over those who don't follow Christ, we can assume that either don't do it, or if it is done, it has to be with a respect to the nature in which God see's it as the purpose of doing. To relieve the sexual tension. It's something men have that most women don't experience like men do. Testosterone can become so prevalent in the body for men to have "wet dreams" to get relief.

In this day and age, men are constantly bombarded by the images of sex at every corner. Television, billboards, even the new styles of feminine attire men see just shopping, make it difficult to maintain a collective lifestyle. It is why the Muslims make their women cover themselves completely. To eliminate the desires of the flesh in the man. When my friend worked in Arabia he wasn't even allowed to talk to women on the street in most of the town he was in. There are only certain areas for people outside of the country to do that.

There have been posters that have said sex with a spouse can also be a sin.

I hope some of you are not married. It would be a sin against your spouse.

I went to a Baptist school for 13 years, and I know full and well how people worship guilt like it's their god.

Some people like following rules so much they make new ones up just so they can have more rules to follow. I've seen people do it my whole life. It's disgusting. If you want to do it knock yourself out.

your error is believing masturbation is what God has designed as "a way out".........that would not be true, God does not lead people to one sin to avoid another

also nobody said temptations were a sin, unless you allow the temptations to become more than what they are, a temptation has only seconds to display itself, if you want to entertain a temptation all afternoon that would be foolish and unChrist like,

a wise man would rebuke the temptation and move on, a baby christian would play around with temptations like a kid playing with fire, they usually always get burned, Its time to mature in the faith and stop playing games and get serious about who is actually Lord and God over your mind, you or Jesus

James 1:14-15 but each man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. Then the lust, when it hath conceived, beareth sin: and the sin, when it is fullgrown, bringeth forth death.

Masturbation chases the lust away so that it doesn't linger around till it's conceived.

No friend! The truth is MASTURBATION is the SIN FULLY CONCEIVED

It will bring death, for the sexually immoral will not inherit salvation

I think people just like writing laws. All things are lawful to me, but not all things are beneficial.

well see how that pans out for you, there is a difference between beneficial and blatant sin........It doesn't matter what each of us thinks is right or wrong in this matter, Its what God will actually tell you on judgement day that matters

and you could either say, Wow I could masturbated my whole life and still entered heaven, everyone said it was a sexually immoral act

or

Ahh oh, It was? really? ah man!.......really.....for eternity?!......nobody told me!.........what?..... I'm a liar too!

I don't worry about it. Our God is bigger than that. He loves us, knows what it is like to be human, and told us that all things are lawful, but not beneficial. The people that have to worry are those that follow that lawyer, Satan, who takes endless delight in telling people that even the most innocuous things are sinful. If it's not in the big 10, it's not a sin, and Christ sacrificed His position in Heaven for 33 years to pay for them. There is nothing that we can do or not do that can either overturn the sacrifice that Christ made, or buy our way into heaven. We cannot sanctify ourselves, and while people are wasting their time wondering if playing with themselves is a sin, children are going hungry, prisons are full of lonely lost people, and hospitals are full of sick scared people that could use a healing hand.

Its good to read the whole passage to better understand the context

“Everything is permissible for me”—but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible for me”—but I will not be MASTERED BY ANYTHING.....(except masturbation) 13 “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food”—but God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.”[a] 17 But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit.
18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins SEXUALLY SINS AGAINST HIS OWN BODY. 19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. THEREFORE HONOR GOD WITH YOUR BODY.

You are trying to act as your own prosecutor. Don't...there is another who will do the accusing for you. It takes years of practice and intimate knowlefge of ones own self to be the master of ones own flesh. Even Jesus was thirteen once. If you have done it, good for you. However, was it true mastery? Some people have low libidos, some have elevated libidos. I only mastered it from knowing myself, aided by advancing age.

As to the passage, put it in context. It's speaking about, what they used to call in my younger days, "sport f******". That is something that is not that hard to avoid. You are reading touching yourself into it.

Philip put it better than I can: "Fear not the flesh nor love it. If you fear it, it will gain mastery over you. If you love it, it will swallow and paralyze you. "

Sylvanus added: "But before everything (else), know your birth. Know yourself, that is, from what substance you are, or from what race, or from what species. Understand that you have come into being from three races: from the earth, from the formed, and from the created." Our flesh is from the earth, has it's own demands and desires. By taking the ego observer position we can be our own masters in truth---- but it can't be done out of guilt, because then "Satan" is our master.

Understand this parable:
A man who will not steal for fear of punnishment is just a timid thief.
A man who will not steal for hope of future reward is just a greedy thief.
A man who will not steal because he loves his neighbors is not a thief.

I would say anything that is master over you is an addiction, and I was an addict of everything under the sun, for years upon years, sexual addictions are not lowered by age, even old pedophiles can't stop themselves as we read in the paper everyday.

there is a way to be completely free from all addictions, but the first step is in understanding that God wants you to be free, and has already freed you by the blood of Jesus, whats keeping people locked into addiction is the lies that fuel their addiction, lies that they can't stop, lies that its not wrong, lies that they won't be happy without it.....the lies are endless trust me I know!

Its also important to actually repent, and that is a critical factor, as in repentance you must understand that what your repenting of is actually a sin

a homosexual can't repent of homosexual acts if he or she does not see them as a sin. they may be sorry they are doing it, but they are not sorry enough to stop and turn from it.

thats why its really hard for an alcoholic to be set free from drunkeness, because as we all know having a drink is not a sin, but the alcoholic can't stop with a couple, and its really hard for them to admit they got a problem and their drinking has become a sin

all addictions eventually lead to sin, and being mastered by either chemical, or self induced chemical responses such as what one feels through masturbation. they are high on the feeling they get from [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]

Yes, yes and yes again. But I am sure it falls on ears that will "not hear", to use use Jesus terms. People find Gnosis (knowledge) to be heretic in nature, so they go their merry way in ignorance. One person challenged me with a few posts of Thomas on a thread (which was just closed) and said he disagreed with both as he read them. As I read them, I saw the truth in them and it came to me that the reason people don't understand them is that they "read" them like reading a book. Then the first line in Thomas appeared in my mind:

(1) And he said, "Whoever finds the interpretation of these sayings will not experience death."

That is the difference. It is not to read, but to "study" or to "seek" as I had to do to understand. And the verse he did not understand when he read was this:

(2) Jesus said, "Let him who seeks continue seeking until he finds. When he finds, he will become troubled. When he becomes troubled, he will be astonished, and he will rule over the All."

It amazes me that people's beliefs are only so shallow as what they read, like who they would vote for in an election, rather than to "seek" so deeply into all things attached to the world of Jesus.
