to put the thread back on its rail...
People were designed to be able to pleasure themselves, but...
those who receive him to themselves with ignorance, the pleasures which are defiled prevail over them. It is those people who used to say; "God created members for our use, for us to grow in defilement, in order that we might enjoy ourselves." And they cause God to participate with them in deeds of this sort; and they are not steadfast upon the earth. Nor will they in Heaven.

This quote of this text I agree with. The god that lets us be selfish is not God, the Most High.
A Jewish gnostic text called the Apocalypse Adam gives an account to god masterbating.
The tenth kingdom says of him that his god loved a cloud of desire. He begot him in his hand and cast upon the cloud above him some of the drop, and he was born(*)...
"Yaldabaoth is the first ruler, who took great power from his Mother. Then he left her and moved away from the realms where he was born. He was strong, and created for himself other realms by means of a bright flame of fire that still exists. He mated with the Mindlessness that is in him, and produced his own Authorities."
(Apocryphon of John)
The underlined; or "amazed in his mindlessness", aponoia (Greek) suggest that he masterbated.
The difference of choices between singles an couples is just one choice.
Man isn't the problem, it's the force that is for the flesh that's the problem...

Grace through my Lord Christ,
Erik.
I think anything considering yalda is usually written with the harshest or most derogatory language possible. I believe his birth is sometimes written of as an "abortion" or, if I'm not mistaken, that he is the bastard offspring of Sophia.
I think it makes perfect sense that he must "touch" to produce his own emanations, b/c obviously he has no one with whom to create. Sophia's act of creation is cursed b/c She attempts to create without Love/Christ, and therefore her act of creation produces an "abortion."
The emanations of yalda are, as they must be, an inverted mirror image of Heaven, so of course all his emanations are inherently defiled, no matter how he produced them, so I think it makes sense that he must "touch" to create them. While the Monad's emanations spring forth from His mind, it makes perfect sense that yalda's emanations must be produced in a way that will be looked down on.
I think it would also make sense for yalda's emanations to be excreted in some way, however I think his act of masturbating speaks to the fact that perfect creation must be the product of the perfect union between wisdom and love, while blindness only has other blindness to produce more evil and chaos with.
However, just b/c the language used to describe yalada is sexualized I would still think it is somewhat of a stretch to say this is a specific indictment of masturbating specifically b/c he simply can not create with anyone but himself. Plus his act of creation is not defiled by attempting to create without Christ, as Sophia's was, since he was never meant to exist to begin with. It has to be something laughable, and in this context what is more embarrassing than a child produced not with love, but by masturbating?
Also I don't think the specifics of this story are necessarily what is important, and that we should look beyond the details b/c I honestly don't think a literal reading of our creation myth will produce the most useful teachings.
However, I think I would agree the larger problem is more about our condition and the corruption of the physical world. If man was created perfectly than we would not be sexually aroused until we were married. Obviously this isn't the case.
