no harm done ... our worldly perception is continually changing and so who can trust it ...

about 30 years back whilst on a military exerciser on the South African border i woke at the crack of dawn and headed out into the bush for a walk ... an amazing time of day ... anyway about an hour in i locked eyes with a giant male Gemsbok which stood about 10 meters ahead facing me from behind a small acacia tree ... which separated us in a way... i froze instantly as our eyes locked ... at the time i was carrying my R4 which had a 35 round magazine in but not loaded and i was loosely carrying it in my right hand .... i knew that the slightest sound or movement would send him off so for about the next 15 to 20 minutes breathing real shallow i painstakingly and very slowly changed position raised the rifle to my shoulder whilst also pulling back the bolt to load a round and all this time which i am not sure about as time seem to stand still for our eyes where locked together in the total silence of the morning ...


anyway i now found myself staring down the barrel of my rifle into the eyes of the biggest Gemsbok i have ever seen, i mean his horns were well over a meter long and our eyes appeared to be at level and i am just shy of 6 feet ...

anyway it was at this moment i found myself with his life at my finger and in this 20 or so minutes i had been looking into his eyes and he in mine the thought of actually killing him entered my mind and i breathed in real deep and kind of let out a sigh as i measured the innocents in his eyes and as i did this he did the most amazing thing ... his body seemed to jellify ... i mean he just dropped his weight and like a released spring he in the same motion turned 180' and leaped about 6 meters and was gone in a fraction of a second leaving me still standing looking down the barrel ...


this is my one and only hunting story ....

My brother in Christ there is nothing wrong with that. I have done similar in my life. Some were just because it was too beautiful to kill. But others were more of a case of rationalizing the circumstances. In no order of importance, (a) will the shot result in an ethical kill? (b) If I do harvest this animal can I be certain to get the meat home without spoiling? (c) do I already have enough so that this would be excess and gluttonous for me to harvest it? (d) If I were standing before God would he say, "Well done" or will God say, "Why did you do that?" That last one gets me every time.

Please don't ask me how many times I went hunting and came home empty handed. I have had more occasion to be more about the hunt and the trip and the being outdoors and exercising than really going out to kill something. Thankfully I do return satisfied whether I return with an empty poke or full one. To be honest I really like having something in the freezer but even more so, I like to share with my family at church and my family at home.

i just last weak tried in vain to buy a shotgun in Bulgaria , but the law pertaining to ownership is meters deep in red tape so will not bother ... my reason for wanting one is because i took up prospecting for gold recently and so would spend a few days at a time deep in the Strandzha mountains (hills really) and i seem to have a knack for stumbling upon animals ... not that i would shoot any without reason of hunger but with this world tittering on a financial implosion and a family to look out for i thought having one would be not be a bad thing ... there are huge lakes about me filled with geese and duck and i have stumbled upon a few deer and plenty of wild pig and pheasant ... oh and there be Wolfe large Jackal and wild dog plus site and sign of desperate refugees about so i have not taken my 9 year old boy with with me yet for this reason .... i was hoping to get a 12 gauge pump action five shell capacity ....

it would literally take hunger for me to kill an animal, as i am fond of them ... i mean i go prospecting for gold but get distracted all the time by bugs and snakes and the like ... i found the most beautiful silver legless lizard one day and wasted an hour playing with it instead of shoveling rocks into my highbanker ....

i am a crack shot with my own custom made katty though ... when i was a kid back in Cape Town i would go all manner of right dodgy places with my katty round my neck and a good few round heavy pebbles in my pocket ....

Sorry to hear that you can't buy something you need due to government regulations and red tape. This is an example of why Americans should be more conscious of what happens in other countries and not take their firearm freedoms for granted--or even be so eager to give them up for themselves and everyone else.

Are you able to acquire a bow or crossbow? Also, what about air rifles? Lewis and Clark carried several with them as they discovered America and they are getting a large following even here in the states. It is possible to take up to small hogs with a .22 caliber break action and if you can acquire one, to hunt large animals with a .357 caliber PCP air rifle. As part of my nest I have several including a Stoeger .22 with a scope on it. If you are hungry a rabbit makes good stew and a snake with a pellet in it's head doesn't bite to many folks.

We are all greenhorns, even when the hair is gray and the eyesight is fading. LOL We are still going back and forth with the laws here. Some states permit some limited hunting, some none, but they are getting more lenient as the air rifles get better. What bothers me is that Canada restricts air rifles to half If I am in the wilderness though and it comes to sustenance hunting, I worry less about mans laws and more about the laws of the stomach.

As for a crossbow - Consider Mad Jack Churchill. Fought through WWII with a Long Bow and a Claymore broadsword so an airgun and a crossbow should be a plenty.

Here are some small game arrow heads which are great for rabbit or ground squirrel. Even a homemade DIY from a screw, nuts, and thumb nut. The idea with the barbs is to prevent the arrow from disappearing while there is enough energy to knock it out or as with the sharp to to kill it for the skillet.

Any info on "copper" ammo... well you know what I mean. The super soldiers (robotoids/humanoid robots) in Syria can be stopped by blood infection from the enzymatic action of the copper ammo. hmmmm

I used to be a great shot with hunting slingshot, but hand strength is gone now.

I am excellent shot in TANKI with my magnum or smokey tank

If you can do it at your range, you might put up a human-outline target and see how well you can hit it at different distances while acting "stressed". The shotgun might be a better choice at home, or wherever you can carry it. Be sure to use buckshot or slugs.

In the police testing we would run around the range two-tree times (jog) then line up at each target. On command we would run as fast as we could to the designated distance, draw, fire two shots, holster, fire on command draw and fire two more and holster. Fire two more and holster. Turn, run back to the starting line, reload, turn and run back to the next and do this over and over again starting from the 3 yard and doing the 10, 15, 20 yard. Then reverse it and do it again at 20, 15, 10, and finish at 3. Talk about exhausted by the time you finished. And that was just the standing, untimed range. The obstacle course was even more demanding with lights and sirens wailing. The intention being to get your heart rate up and adrenaline flowing and it worked. Fat and unfit didn't make it without preparing a few times in advance of having to test.

I did some federal counter terrorism training...and range training had some running back and forth (got a shin splint when they had us turn at a concrete curb ) But fatigue is not the same as adrenaline rush... the kind I experienced after Andrew in my decimated neighborhood during my watch one night with armed looters on bikes.... or at the nuclear plant on alert (not knowing if drill or real...)... One on one? Just not sure unless close range.

I dreamed the other night that I was too fatigued to pull the trigger! But I grabbed a large hunting knife and sliced right up through him like butter. Guess my psyche is ready at least.

I will be selling my home and going off grid by summer's end I pray (house on market within 2 weeks?) I have to double check my double shot to see what I bought but I'm pretty sure it's buck shot... but just something about the racking is music to my ears to see the spray is fun too though.

Right, fatigue is not the same as adrenaline rush. Like the day a Russian submarine surfaced only a hundred feet in front of our Cutter and paralleled us for a few hundred yards in Alaska. We heard General Quarters horns and for the first time in our lives went to full-on GQ billets.

Enough for when I can't buy more legally. I surmise that at that point it would be illegal to keep your firearms and ammo... and I also think that at that point I would be needing more than I do now as I haven't shot anyone in a very long time if ever (wink wink) and the risk percentage would be greatly increased in that.

No way to compute this? If NY PD finest only hit target 17% of time... I would need 83% more ammo than they? lol (Dog computation).

I think once I sell the house I will look at MSR purchase...but can't imagine needing that since I'll be living in a van ... and I didn't even think to draw on the bigfoot my dog and I saw... now if he were rocking the van in the woods I'd probably think of driving away asap.

Need to get to the indoor range (south Florida) though.
