When I read the Old Testament it gives me an idea of who (or what the character of) the Heavenly Father is, and by that I mean the Holiness that is the Father. If there is Holiness on his part there should quite naturally be reverence on "our part." The other (older) gentleman is stating his beliefs I would think based on upon his reverence for God and his Word. I think our modern society has forgotten who our God is, and about his Holy nature.

That is a BAD mistake to forget about the pure Holiness our God embodies. Being nonchalant about spiritual issues that might arouse our God to anger is someting I would certainly take a pass on. Further, a Christian person's (especially a pastor) demeanor and attitude can and should reflect that nature of God in dealing with other people's even if they are of a faith different than Christian (and probably especially then). Love and patience would be the expected "fruit" that a Christian should show in their own lives (and attitudes).

People that have the "fruit of the Spirit" sort of stick out from the norm. Anybody can have a condescending and spiritually cold attitude (it is part and parcel of being a sinful human). To often in a situation like this you have two sides pitting against each other. But the attitudes and the positions are telling factors usually.

Who is supporting the Holiness of our God? Our God's name is "Jealous" according to the bible. He does not share his Glory with none....save his own SON Jesus!

I'd say that both are OK.

Yoga is a programme for gently relaxing your muscles and increasing your flexibility. Many practitioners don't look at any spiritual matters behind it.

As for repeating a phrase over and over again.. it's just a sound. The same way you could be listening to crashing sea waves against the shore.

eagle owl,

I hate to shatter your belief that these practices are benign. If you would like to research the spiritual underpinnings and possible dangerous consequences of practicing Yoga I suggest visiting this website

ww.spiritual-research-network.com/f/KundaliniEnergy_YogasOccultPhenomenaintheChurch.pdf

You should be shocked by the true (demonic) spiritual forces that are active in these pagan pursuits. If you are a Christian you should avoid Yoga like it was the plague.

Check out the other (Godly) perspective about this stuff, if you are wrong this could cost you big time. Prove it to your self. Don't risk your eternal future on poor advice.

Keep in mind she has listed herself as Buddhist, not Christian. So of course a Buddhist will support yoga, meditation, etc. Promoting such in a Christian forum is not exactly respectful, but whatchya gonna do? lol

I had mentioned Reiki awhile back in this thread.....I found out yesterday my daughter has been caught up in that practice. I was stunned to hear this.

Reiki is completely demonic in nature. The ritual begins by calling "spirit guides" who many will tell you are "good angels." But remember Satan masquarades as an angel of light. The symbols they draw over your head and heart then they make motions to push them into you. The symbols are of course demonic. So in effect they are calling forth demon spirits and forcing them on your head and heart.

What an awful thing to hear that your child has become involved with. People who practice these things experience all kinds of tragedy or bad luck (curses). Is it any wonder considering what the spiritual forces they are inviting into their lives by these practices?

You have the authority to rebuke these evil things over your child. Deliverance will come just stand in faith believing the scriptures

copyChkboxOff.gif
2Pe 3:9The Lord is not slack concerning [His] promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

Satan will attempt to discourage you and cause you to give up on the spiritual fight but stand firm in faith. God will not let your daughter be lost. Believe God He is the rewarder of them that diligently seek HIM.

copyChkboxOff.gif
Hbr 11:6But without faith [it is] impossible to please [Him], for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and [that] He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek

Lord I pray that this young woman will soon realize the emptiness of these things that she will seek true peace and joy and love through the Lord Jesus Christ. WE ask for your spiritual protection and control over her right now. This experience is but a counterfeit of the your true and abundant eternal life that is promised toall who believe. Open her spiritual eyes and heart. AMEN

I see us as two eunuchs for the kingdom of God pushing Jezebel down from her tower. We do not fight against flesh and blood but principalities. God loves the person and hates the practice. I also have an ex-wife that is prone to going after false gospels and have rebuked her to her face, for sending my daughter to school with a t-shirt that says "I'm evil." I and the Lord love them both, and I have payed a price for doing what I was supposed to because she is my boss. But Jesus Christ bought me at a price and He will deliver me from all afflictions and those who would try to cover the soil for the growth to spring forth. He has told me to yield and I will wait but I will spring forth and bear fruit and those who are in the way will be circumvented. Bless.

bloodbought09,

All of these mystical practices are a sign of the times we live in. The whole world is being enamored by one or more of these seemingly benign practices. It starts off innocently enough, but over time you are slowly and surely pulled deeper and deeper into practices that are "antichrist to the core" and most never even realize it as it is happening.

Spiritual discernment is almost a lost art these days. Christians especially are being hoodwinked big time by this stuff. I am glad my Saviour opened my eyes to this insanity. I want to fly away in the rapture myself. In fact I have had a couple of dreams about the experience.

Oh snap... I voted but I'm a Reformed guy... is that close enough?

I didn't see "fundies only" until after I already voted...

BTW- I voted NO to both
You can be Reformed and a Fundie. In fact the two fit together like a glove. :D

I try to consider myself a Conservative Evangelical (like that really means anything anymore lol ) but I certainly lean toward fundamentalism.

Maybe I'm a Fundie and don't know it. Is there an online quiz I can take to find out? lol

There's all kinds of inaccurate stereotypes associated with tags and labels, especially Fundamentalist. As an example, many associate Legalist with Fundamentalism, and that is not the case. If you read the Statement of Faith for a Fundamentalist in this area of the forum, you'll get a good idea of what Fundamentalism really is. Read it and see if you might be "Fundie". There isn't anything wild or unreasonable about it. It's really just being an old-fashioned Christian without the New Age garbage and other things that men try to add in. "Back to the Bible" would be one good way of describing it, but the listed Statement of Faith is excellent.

Well said I remember years ago 32 to be exact our pastor was preaching about this thing and used the example of a frog sitting in a pan of water that is slowly heated up. Because its temperature adapts to the surrounding it never realizes it is boiling to death so never jumps out. That picture has really stayed with me as I see evidence of this all around the Church. My son even said "I think we are making too big a deal about homosexuality there are other sins just as bad" I sort of understand what he meant and he in no way is condoning it but I tried to explain to him that the other sins are just as bad and it is not right that we as christians over look them either. We are to stand for what is right and in love and only lead by the Holy Spirit try to to warn people of the consequences of their actions and lead them into the presence of the KING. As well, as Christians we need to ask our self, "Is my particular sin more important than the Lordship of Christ?" gg

Mark 9:50 "Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with each other."

Greek word: halas, salt; the impure salt of the ancient could become tasteless in adverse conditions, and its residue useless. (The Strongest Concordance NIV)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Revelation 3:15-16 "I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are luke-warm -- neither hot nor cold -- I am going to spit you out of my mouth."

Couldn't resist to add some scripture along those lines.

Is it OK for a Christian to practice Yoga, or
repeat a phrase to empty their mind?

Please, only fundamentalists vote.
I vote No, to both - why?
1.
God, hopefully you remember ;), created us humans to
actually FILL our mind, to overflowing... with all excellent  thoughts, & emotions. -

(otoh, satan likes nothing better, than to get people to empty  their mind,
such that he -and his minions- can operate it for their evil aims, of people staying in hell,
with some mind-numbing chant, like "omm". - What a waste of LIFE, and potentially eternally...)
and
2.
As another passionate :) iceskater, I well appreciate the importance of Healthy  exercises,
especially Flexability , as you can well imagine.
(Skip! yoga); as Ballet, & Pilates, & lots of other ways all nicely help you retain, & achieve this, plus lots more...

Then again, Why
would someone even think to empty their mind, unless
its to get rid of some emotional? challenges, or to relax?
In either case,
Find a LIFE-counselor competent & experienced, in teaching you the requisite skills
of getting your life back, & succeeding as you want. - why? Well to PRAISE  God!

Cheers!

God loves the person and hates the practice.

Where do you get this from? Not the bible. It was made popular by Ghandi. While God does love us and He does hate sin, we can't negate Psalm 5:5.

VCViking,

You are right! Partial list of applicable scriptures (I am sure there are much more)

Romans 12:9
Deuteronomy 16:21-22
1 Thessalonians 5:21-22
1 Thessalonians 4:1-8
Amos 5:14-15
1 Timothy 5:22
Proverbs 8:13
Psalm 97:10
Psalm 119:104
Jeremiah 44:3-6

Take heed "discerning" christians!

1 John 5:3 (NIV) "This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome."

John 14:15 (NIV) "If you love me, you will obey what I command."

DO YOU LOVE HIM?.....OBEY HIM

His command in Acts 1:8 says to go and preach the Gospel, if this were done on the scale that it should be, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Get a few thousand Gospel tracts put them where the pizza guys put thier coupons and watch God work in your lives!!!!!!!!!!!Then when you run out of that few thousand get a few thousand more...
