  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are there people here who aren't "allowed" into WWMC,

Well, that is really too bad. :(

I have some thoughts about getting us all together in one place. PM sometime if you want.
Feel free to raise this in the Suggested New Forums forum but it won't fly if you want it to be in the Creedial Christians Only Forums section of CF.

Do we have any chance of changing it so that it really is a liberal Christian forum rather than only a postmodern one?
I don't think there's any chance Erwin is going to change the rules, and I don't really know if it's fair to expect him to. He founded CF and has certain ideas about what he wants to achieve, and I don't know that we can really argue with that. Of course, you can always ask, and I don't think he's the type of person to come down on you just for asking.

The rules as they stand do make it impossible to have a truly liberal forum on CF, and that bothers me enough that I gave up my Christian faith icon over it. Now it kind of bugs me, because there are a couple threads I'd like to post on and can't, but that's okay; if Rochir and CK (for example) are excluded I prefer to be excluded, too. ;)

It also bothers me that it's forbidden to discuss homosexuality, abortion, or any of the other listed controversial subjects in WWMC.

Please PM me with your ideas; I have a couple of my own, and it might be interesting to compare notes.

Me too. I don't want to contribute to this thinking so I don't use a cross faith icon. I can't stand the thought that I am allowed in when my brothers and sisters are not.
It does prevent me from posting to a few threads but not enough to make me accept feeling like a hypocrite for doing so.

I would have agreed with you until about 3 weeks ago.

I have to say, while I agree with the opening up of WWMC, I do see the unlikelihood of that actually happening. I stand in solidarity with my brothers and sisters who have changed their faith icons in protest, and I would change mine, except I'm holding out for another faith icon to be added. Changing mine now might kill that discussion.

I will say, however, that we who remain at WWMC miss the voices of those who have changed their faith icons, just as we miss the potential of voices who may not be as trinitarian as the admin thinks they ought to be, given their official interpretation of the Nicene Creed.

I, for one, think the creed is wide in its meaning, and I'm not sure I'm even Trinitarian enough to be considered Christian, due to my differing views of Hellenist orthodoxy. (yeah, I'm probably a heretic) But that's another thread.
