  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

are there any more virgins left?

It's really sad when Christian friends say 'oh, well, that's alright for you, but I don't have it in me'. Don't they know it's God working?!?

Quite. but honestly, If i run into someone who is only a cultural christian, in that the only day they try to walk the christian walk is for the hour and a half during services on Sunday, I wonder if it's not a misnomer to even call them "Christian" at all...

My husband and I were virgins when we got married. My sister and brother also. I have two sisters-in-law, ages 27 and 35 who are virgins and two brothers-in-law, ages 23 and 32 that are also. And for the skeptics, I know they are, not just by the way they were raised but they don't date, all live at home still and are very open about such things.
I think there are more out there than you think, especially when you get into the homeschool scene where more families think courtship is more ideal than dating.

btw, i grew up around many who thought "courtship" was better.
the method does not dictate virginity.
a heart after God and wanting to obey Him does.
I realize that but it's hard to have sex when your parents/siblings/chaperon are sitting across the room watching you.... ;)

no, i will not derail.
but the idea that a method changes the heart is foolish
in fact, we know a more rigid method will result in a more intense temptation.

"for I did not know sin, until I knew the law, and with the law, awoke every sinful desire" (paraphrase)

What's it matter if people are virgins or not?

Further, do people not make mistakes? Do people not come into the fold until later in life after they've done "bad" things?

Honestly, when people bug me about why I ain't into the dirty wut-wut, I tell them my reason why; basically dogma; but follow that with I do not advocate my reasons as something they should follow. Because they are not me.

Forgive me if I seem disjointed, it's just I cannot see why there is fuss over something like this. It almost sounds like a "Is there anybody left out there who doesn't swear?"

while i understand that we all "mess up" using this as an excuse to sin , regardless of the type is not justified in scripture.
when we have the mentality "oh, i'm just a sinner, so I sin" we are more likely to do just that.
God has called us to be a holy and set-apart people, striving for holiness, not excusing away our lack thereof

I think the defining difference though is between those who are repentent and those who are not.

If it is somethin that has been repented of, by no means should it be held against them anymore. God freely forgave, and so should we.

"What shall we say, then? Should we keep on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?....Therefor do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey it's evil desires. Do not offer parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer part of your body to Him as instruments of righteousness." Romans 6:1,2 &12,13

Yes, we all sin and some people do not become Christians until later in life but this (virginity) is a sin that has been long overlooked by most churches until no one really cares whether or not someone is pure. All sin is a big deal, no matter how many other people are doing it. And to people who are waiting until they are married, or are devoted to celibacy, their virginity is a big deal since they are surrounded by a society obsessed with removing it from them!
