Much more than hundreds or tens of thousands I'd think. Since loving others (loving more than only those who love us back) and forgiving easily are signs, i think many millions are doing these, though it's guessing. But I've seen more then just a few that love widely.

We can quibble for days over the exact number. But think on this (assuming I got all the zeros in the right place) if ten million people are the only ones on the planet who think that only the words of Jesus are the true word of God, we are still dealing with only 1/2 of one percent of the two billion people who identify as Christian.

I suppose that is the political version of a glass half full vs a glass half empty. I vote for the person I think will handle the job well and, secondarily, for the person who best represents my view of what America should be.

How that played out for me was a vote for Bernie in the primary and a vote for Clinton in the general. Had the Republican candidate been Romney instead of Trump, the whole thing could have easily played out that I voted for Bernie in the primary and Romney in the general.

I suppose one could look at it that I voted against Clinton in the primary and against Trump in the general, but in reality I -think- I voted in the best interest of the nation in both cases.

Had Clinton won, she would be barricaded in the White House with every Republican in the nation sending her hate mail. But at least America would not be the laughing stock of the planet like it is now.

That is what would have made Romney a choice for me...he is sane and responsible. He doesn't believe in many of the things I do, but he wouldn't have been barricaded in the White House with rabid Democrats clambering to get at him.

I think if one were to look objectively to Jesus' teachings and how he lived His life, one would have a difficult time being a capitalist or being politically active along with the standard things like racist, sexist, nationalist, bully, hateful, etc.

The reality is that America makes a VERY poor representative of Jesus' life and teachings.

I think both parties smell really bad. And it's time to take out the trash. Pretending that one party is better than the other, some sort of justification for voting with one party to stop the other party in a zero sum game, is just a way of perpetuating a society that doesn't look very well founded on Jesus.

Republicans smell. The odor became unavoidable in the last election as they claimed traditional values but voted in a playboy. Democrats have the odor of death about them, and in the last generation have been the principle party of abortion. Both are rotten. I was a Democrat, grew up that way, but had to leave when they became the party of death. I tried out the Republicans for a while, and for a while they were a bit better, but are now the party of Trump and a festering mess. In the last election I realized that they were Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. Took me long enough. But millions seem attached to their party far more than they are attached to Christ.

Most did. But it's time to stop that as it only perpetuates two bad parties and means that we never escape what the two parties give us. Vote for someone even if they have a slim chance. That is really the only way to not throw your vote away. Millions threw their votes away trying to stop one bad candidate by voting for another bad candidate. Neither should have gotten 10% of the vote.

I wish I could point you in a better direction, but I'm a life long Democrat and I'm seriously considering moving to the Green Party. Major parties have come and gone in America's history. Edit- I should add that it's mostly Boomers who are worried about their respectability with regards to Trump voters. The generations younger than the Boomers mostly couldn't care less.

Considering that 2020 is likely to be the last election where Boomers are a political consideration, I don't think their concerns are worth listening to anymore. If they ever were. Which is doubtful.

If you have to justify your (apparent) vote with "You made me do this", then that should - but probably won't - be cause for some soul-searching.

The mental gymnastics involved with "Trump is not a Christian person, but I'm going to vote for him to stick it to 'the left' that supposedly told me to separate my Christianity from my vote" should be enough to get you to the 2020 Olympic games.

I wish I could point you in a better direction, but I'm a life long Democrat and I'm seriously considering moving to the Green Party. Major parties have come and gone in America's history. There are no reasons why one or both of these parties should not go away as too distasteful for a civilized person.

I did the Democrat thing for a long time. From a family of Democrats. Grandpa was county party chair. I grew up on looking down on Republicans. It's a hard habit to break. But after years of trying to be a pro-life Democrat and being looked down on for that, I finally realized I had been pushed out. Good thing is there is life after being a Democrat.

I'm looking at the American Solidarity Party. Think Konrad Adenauer from post WWII Germany and so many of the Christian Democrats of that era. Those are the roots of the Solidarity Party. Question is whether they have the fire to launch as a political power or if they like to talk.

We are at a moment in history where the two big parties could whither away and be replaced by some better ones. I hope this moment does not pass without some good happening. The Democrats are spent as a party of good ideas. Best they can do is be a party of 'no'. Republicans have gone strange with Trump and their future is scary but not clear.

And that is the difference between black evangelicals and white evangelicals.

This is an observable reality. The left won that particular discussion, apparently. It's what they said the right should do. The right is now doing it. What's the problem exactly?

Now me, I've never believed that my elected officials have to represent the same ideas and beliefs that I hold. I'm voting for them so as to implement certain policies. The people for whom I vote can belong to whatever religion they want (or no religion at all) as long as they advance the agendas I care about.

If that is true...and I'm hoping it isn't...then the religion of Christianity has already been lost to the dominion of the Evil One and there is no saving it.

Those few who actually do believe Jesus' teachings as found in the Bible are the only true teachings of God...and I would number them in the hundreds world-wide...will need to give up the title of Christian since it has no meaning for the true believer.

This is extreme ... you are allowing merely a segment of christianity to define the whole ... just because they happen to be in political ascendancy right now.

In some ways, I would agree with you. In others, not so much.

America has not been perfect.

But America has, also, ... not been Rome, or Babylon, or Nazi Germany, or Communist China, etc.

Thankfully, America has been on the right side of most moral global issues (Worls wars, foreign aid, provision of medical, food, care, etc.), participating in world-peace efforts, achieving advances in technology which make life better for, likely, billions of people ...

Jesus said, "I have come that you might have life, and have that life more abundantly." It seems that in this particular area of christian endeavor, America has taken a leading role ...
