Magical golden plates written in a magical language, magical top hats, magical translating stones, even magical underwear. Magical temple rites ripped off from the magical Masons. But hey, believing in Jesus makes you a Christian, right?

What he said.

Doesn't it sound more like a fairy tale...O, Joseph Smith found tablets written in a mystical Egyptian Script...Only he could desipher it...To quote my beloved south park hymn about Mormonism; And the choir sings "Joesph Smith was called a prophet, Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb."

Where do you ignorant so-called 'christians' get this stuff???! If you knew anything about what you speak, i might actually give you some credit.

Have you ever read any part of the book of mormon? (and i mean... really read it? not just bits and pieces from an anti-mormon website)

~ Remember, intolerance + intolerance does not = agreement, love or anything else remotely Jesus-like ~

Accept eachother's beliefs and get over it otherwise you will pull eachother off the mountain you are both climbing of which Christ is the summit simply because you disagree over which foothold is the better one. However, you both forget that all of us don't have the same size feet.

Try to prove your point about the golden tablets.

Joseph Smith: Yes, I found the word of god on these golden tablets.
Joe Sceptical: Really? Wow, Joseph, that sounds great. Can I see them?
Joseph Smith: Well, uh, you wouldn't be able to read them becuase they are written in an ancient form of egyptian.
Joe Sceptical: So, how did you read them?
Joseph Smith: Uhhhh, the magic, uhh, seeing stone! Yeah, the magic seeing stone.

I know it is but remember that for you, something might sound 'stupid' but for another it may sound like God given truth and a pillar for all of their faith whereby questioning it may metaphorically 'topple their temple' and cause them to have a complete disbelief which is the exact opposite of what we are supposed to achieve as Christians. It is better for someone to have belief, even if that belief is wrong in your opinion than to have no faith at all.

of course... and that's why what you say is wrong and even absurd! clearly you believe anything.. so long as it goes against the Mormon faith. You are just like the pharisees... hating the saviour in every aspect of his life - even the good!

Prove her wrong.

Plus there's much better scholary sites against Mormonism.

It’s always humorous to watch Christians fight other Christians on who is Christian. Why doesn’t everyone ask them directly instead of relying on anti-Mormonism propaganda?

We are Christians in a very real sense and that is coming to be more and more widely recognized. Once upon a time people everywhere said we are not Christians. They have come to recognize that we are, and that we have a very vital and dynamic religion based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. We, of course, accept Jesus Christ as our Leader, our King, our Savior...the dominant figure in the history of the world, the only perfect Man who ever walked the earth, the living Son of the living God. He is our Savior and our Redeemer through whose atoning sacrifice has come the opportunity of eternal life. Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints pray and worship in the name of Jesus Christ. He is the center of our faith and the head of our Church. The Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ and witnesses of His divinity, His life, and His Atonement.

mormons are christians the same way that muslims are christians. Some parts are similar, but overall, it's so corrupted and removed that it's completely illegitamate.

correction... muslims do not believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. They do not exercise faith in him. They do not call upon his name... and they do not trust in him as their Saviour.

Mormons do....

so how is comparing muslims and mormons here a valid point at all?

A christian is a follower of Christ. I am a follower of Christ, and I am a Mormon. Can a muslim say such?

Please... wake up.

Why do I have to prove her wrong? Have I not already quoted from the news site that she initially posted? Didn't it say there that polygamy was banned? It is she that is presenting the claims... surely she should first provide some evidence first.

But anyway... what the heck. Here... if you will accept the church's official statement as evidence... take a read:

"I wish to state categorically that this Church has nothing whatever to do with those practicing polygamy. They are not members of this Church. Most of them have never been members. They are in violation of the civil law. They know they are in violation of the law. They are subject to its penalties. The Church, of course, has no jurisdiction whatever in this matter.
If any of our members are found to be practicing plural marriage, they are excommunicated, the most serious penalty the Church can impose. Not only are those so involved in direct violation of the civil law, they are in violation of the law of this Church." (Gordon B Hinckley, Nov. 1998)

For all you ignorant Christians out there... Gordon B. Hinckley is God's prophet over the church.

Is that evidence enough? Now have I proved it? Now do you accept that such claims made in this thread that the church is involved in polygamy are wrong?

She's obvioulsy refering to the 4 Golden Plates which JS claimed had the book of Mormon writen on them in an ancient form of Egyptian (which no one had ever heard of before or since) which he translated and publish in 1830 as the book of Mormon.

Also, a nice quote from your prophet:

"In bearing testimony of Jesus Christ, President Hinckley spoke of those outside the Church who say Latter-day Saints 'do not believe in the traditional Christ.' 'No, I don't. The traditional Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom I speak. For the Christ of whom I speak has been revealed in this the Dispensation of the Fullness of Times. He together with His Father, appeared to the boy Joseph Smith in the year 1820, and when Joseph left the grove that day, he knew more of the nature of God than all the learned ministers of the gospel of the ages.'" (LDS Church News Week ending June 20, 1998, p.7 )

A false prophet at best.

I assume that all other groups don't have the same problem, given the fact that there are such things as heretical doctrines?

Sorry, Mormons are not Christians...Joseph Smith was not a prophet...Jesus did NOT come to America.

I agree, except I would change the first sentence to read "Sorry, Mormonism is not Christian"

May I suggest that you run away from this thread before you make yourself look any more stupid. You've made it very clear now how ignorant you are of the church that you are trying to bash. No wonder why you don't know that we are christian... you know nothing about us!

No part of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints is affiliated with polygamy. Any member who involves himself with it is excommunicated. It's as simple as that.

You say mormons still practice it... you are utterly wrong. give me some evidence of this!

You say it is an acceptable mormon practice.. you are wrong. May i again repeat that it was banned long ago.. and is still banned today.

The people who practice polygamy consider themselves Mormons.

The different denominational beliefs of Mormonism aren’t the point of the matter, the point is that Mormonism: “accepts Jesus Christ as their Leader, their king, and Savior,” and they belief that, “Jesus is their Savior, Redeemer, whose atoning sacrifice has come the opportunity of eternal life,” also that Jesus was “the living Son of the living God.” Isn’t that what most Christians believe?

Obviously, they do not put their whole faith in that because they add other things to that belief that invalidates what you have said. Mormonism is not the only system that makes the same or very similar statements but are heretical. Just because Jesus is mentioned and reverenced does not validate their system. If that were the case, there would be no need for Christ to say that gate is narrow to salvation and that many will do things in His name but will be far removed from Him.
