As an aside, Trump's proposals for immigration reform are much more acceptable to Democrats than to Republicans.

Many people have made that observation--friends as well as foes of the president. But if this is so, it's surprising that the Democrats would have decided to "blow up" the process with this silly thing about the "S" word.

If Trump used that language in this private conversation (some present say they don't recall him useing that specific term) then it was a really nasty thing to say about another nation. I would have no problem saying that about Kim Jong un's ruling apparatus (not the North Korean people). It was Dick Durban that made it public for political reasons. Wonder if Dick ever said anything privately that he wouldn't say publicly?

As long as we're all backing away from the false equivalency between Trump and Obama, I'm cool.

I think its silly that whether we think the immigrant is nice or not matters to our overall policy.

I find it disturbing that any Christian or any American would discriminate against an entire group of people because our president perceives them as coming from a ----hole country. What's the objection? Is it because latrine hole countries are sending us latrine holes?

I look around my own community and my own church and I see how refugees and immigrant's from these countries bless and enrich the fiber of our society. This includes many outstanding priests.

The president's words as well as his immigration policy are dehumanizing, and as a Catholic, I can't abide by that.

I think that this is an example of how a simple idea can be turned on its head when it gets passed through a dozen retellings of the event. You probably did that exercise at some time where one person tells a tale to the one next to him and then that person tells another until it gets to the end of the line and...behold! The story isnt at all the same at the end as it was at the beginning.

And this is particularly true when the people who start the story begin with a false narrative--as usually is the case when the opposition party and their media go after the president.

I cant accept that. You don't blow up the process merely because there is negotiating going on. In this case, the Dems chose to abandon the process before it had run its course and before they had moved an inch off of their beginning proposal.

Had the Republicans in frustration called off the discussions at the same point, that would have explained itself, but not the Democrats who now appear to have wanted nothing more than to be able to say that they tried but it didn't succeed, therefore they're safely off the "reaching across the aisle" hook. They know that the people want bipartisanship.

Besides, Trump is well-known for being a bargainer and that he did a lot of compromising in the tax reform and Obamacare repeal efforts of recent memory.

I expect a new deal to be accepted very soon.

A variation of the "S" word Trump is accused of using. Spending 30 seconds using Google with Obama, Libya and the "S" word should yield the results you're looking for. That way I won't get a silly warning for using crude language.

This goes back to the actual word that was used. I don't actually have a problem with the S-word and honestly don't mind the president using it in casual conversation but to say that both of them used the word in the same way would be disingenuous. Obama was talking about the situation in a war zone while Trump deliberately referred to people's home countries as being S-holes. That's not the same thing.

When a country is in the middle of elevated war/conflict calling it an shole makes sense (eg: Iraq was a shole in 2003).
When a country is NOT in the middle of an elevated war/conflict, when there is relative peace and stability, calling a country a shole, is not okay.

Luckily, I and my parents don't have to worry. They immigrated from a white country so I NEVER EVER EVER have to worry about Trump insulting MY "motherland".

So does all the senseless massive debt, senseless killing and rapidly degrading infrastructure in the US qualify it to be one of those shole countries too? (Reminds me of quite a few other countries I've visited over the years).
