This reminded me of footage from about five months go.

AOC is seen mingling with people, without a mask, and then shown putting a mask on for a photo op.
Later she is shown with the mask off again while sitting and talking right next to people.

So what was the point of putting on the mask in the first place if you're just going to take it off again while still being in the vicinity of people? It completely defeats the purpose.

It's because she's just an elitist like other Democrats like Biden, Pelosi the governor of California.

Or they don't really believe that masks are effective.

makes no sense to me whatsoever is criticizing her for doing what The Right says everyone should be free to do and then blaming her for actually getting COVID.

The right isn't blaming her for getting covid. They are pointing out her blatant hypocrisy. Like Gretchen Whitmer, Gavin Newsome, Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, and many other democrats who vilify others for doing exactly what they are doing themselves. Not to mention that people have had their businesses closed and thrown in jail for violating mask mandates the democrat leaders ignore.

It's like saying "Told you so!" when you, in fact, have never told anyone so and have been telling the exact opposite of what you said you told them so that you didn't really tell them so.

If you think that's what she being criticized for, you need to re-read our posts. Cause you have missed the point by a wide mile.

And when they offer a $10,000 reward for turning in your neighbors, you'll happily turn them in.

After all, threads like this one have already shown how you'll do it for free -- no compensation but an "attaboy!" from the anti-mask crowd.
When it comes to liberal hypocrites, I would turn them in for free.

This is all Ron DeSantis's fault for not having a safer state for her to party in!

Had he just implemented all of the same mandates as her hometown of NYC, she wouldn't have gotten Covid!

I mean, look how much better NY is doing than FL in terms of the case rate according to the CDC...

Hmmm...not a huge difference in terms of case rate per 100k residents...

In fact, FL's is just a touch lower...

Wait...that would mean

If people haven't figured it out yet, we're all going to catch the Omicron variant...

I'm still a strong advocate of vaccination, and do believe the evidence is clear cut that it reduces severity when you do catch it...but that said, we're all going to get it.

I was previously infected and triple vaxxed and still caught Omicron last month (despite working from home for the last 2 years, and not going to any large gatherings in the previous weeks, which means that someone probably coughed in a grocery store, and I was within "striking range").

Maybe this will change her perspective on the situation, and bring her to the realization that "cases" isn't the metric we should be tracking at this point in the game.
You have no understanding of New York City.

Which is great -- save the government some reward money. I'm sure there will be plenty who will turn in conservatives for free... meanwhile, how many friends, relatives, or neighbors do you know who wouldn't turn you in for a check? I'm guessing a low number.

If Biden were to use Texas as a blueprint for a nationwide mask mandate, you might not be the most unbiased of the mandate's enforcers, but you will be among the most diligent.

I don't think there's much opportunity for that...she posted it on her own twitter feed

Although the last part, about her "encouraging everyone to follow all CDC guidelines" is a bit ironic, considering she was partying maskless at bars in Florida. (which means she wasn't following their guidelines)

Sort of a "do as I say, not as I do" sort of thing...
Sort of like anti-vaxxers who tell you to get the vax from their hospital bed before they - you know

Not even close. Did you miss the part where I said what she did was wrong?

Actually, to be honest, I don't even think her actions, alone, were "wrong".

She's tripled-vaccinated, she's a young healthy 32 year old person with no comorbidities that I'm aware of, and she opted to take a vacation in a state where you can do a lot of stuff outdoors due to the nicer weather.

Given that this virus is going to be with us for a while, she made the type of risk-assessment, countervailing-interests analysis we've all made, and will have to make for quite a while.

I went to Florida for Halloween weekend a few months back, went to a few places, had some drinks and some food. I was a vaccinated 38 year old with no underlying conditions, so it was a risk I was willing to take (the irony being, I didn't catch it down in Florida, I got it a month and half later after being back in Ohio...but, in fairness, that was pre-omicron when I went to FL, and when I went down there, their numbers were actually lower than ours at that point in time)

The "wrongness" comes into play when a person is willing to give themselves the latitude to make those kinds of risk assessment choices for themselves, but then advocate foisting an unsustainable code on everyone else.

There are other places with nice weather she could've gone. So-Cal has a lot of the same climate advantages as Florida, same vibrant culture (probably even more of the type of environment she would like since it's a more liberal vibe there), and she has the income that it wouldn't have been a problem to fly to Cali.

I suspect the reason she specifically picked Florida over Cali is because, as I noted before, she's a young healthy vaccinated person, and she wanted her vacation to be fun and relaxing, wanted to be able to mingle with people, and not have to worry about abiding by a bunch of restrictions on vacation when her net risk is extremely low.

I actually hope it gives her some perspective on the matter, and makes her reflect on the types of policies she's been advocating for, for vaccinated 30 year olds in her home city.

I hear tell, her Mom is in Florida.

That's correct, and the reason her Mother moved down there was a little "interesting"
Ocasio-Cortez's mom moved to Florida to escape NYC's property taxes

“I was paying $10,000 a year in real estate taxes up north. I’m paying $600 a year in Florida. It’s stress-free down here,” Blanca Ocasio-Cortez told the Daily Mail from her home in Eustis, a town of less than 20,000 in central Florida north of Orlando.

It's possible that she also visited her Mom while she was down there, I don't have her itinerary, so I don't know...

But I do know from Google Maps, that where AOC was at in Miami is about a 4 hour drive away from the city where her Mom lives...

...but it's possible she made the road trip and the "Miami weekend" was just part of the reason she went down.

How would Florida offer her more of that than California? It's the other way around, if anything.

She probably chose Miami because it's warmer and because she's Puerto Rican and they have more of a community there than California.

How is that interesting at all? That's been going on for decades. Florida, particularly South Florida, was developed by the north, particularly Henry Flagler on behalf of Standard Oil of NJ and NY (Rockefeller) and for literally decades, almost a century, has been used as a retirement haven for New Yorkers and New Jerseyans.

What do you find so "interesting" about AOC's mother doing what almost every other NYer does?

And then the psi varient will come out etc etc. Rinse and repeat. The vaccine was pretty effective at first. Now? Not so much.
Not so much for preventing. It is only about 30% effective from what I have seen. But it still appears to prevent deaths from the virus rather well. It is not perfect, but early data indicates that the unvaccinated are still dying at a higher rate.

How would Florida offer her more of a fun and relaxing vacation, you ask?

Under normal circumstances, it probably wouldn't have.

But under the current set of restrictions set for the two states, respectively, Florida would be a lot more fun right now.

Universal masking rules (regardless of vaccination status) and distancing rules in a lot of places, and having to fiddle around to find your vaccine card before you go in anywhere (because only California vaccinations are in their passport system).

Having to do this in a restaurant (per the official rules from the Cali public health website):
Note: You are allowed to take off your mask while you are:
- Actively eating or drinking as long as you are sitting or standing in a specific place such as a table, counter, or ticketed seat.
- This means that you can briefly remove your mask when you are actually eating or drinking but you must put it back on immediately afterwards.
- You must also wear a mask when you are waiting to be served, between courses or drinks, and while seated after finishing your food or drink.

So basically, pull the mask down when you're taking a bite or sip, and pull it back up right away.

Doesn't exactly sound like my idea of a "fun relaxing dinner on vacation"...but that's just me (and probably most other people)
