  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I immediately thought of Soulfly.
Hmm

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soulfly

So why'd u say they reminded you of Soulfly? According to this paragraph description:

Soulfly is a thrash metal band started by Max Cavalera in 1997 after his decision to leave Sepultura. The band, which incorporates elements of thrash metal and nu metal as well as Brazilian and African world music influences, has released five albums so far; Soulfly, Primitive, 3, Prophecy, and Dark Ages.

They don't sound half bad, noting that they draw influence from African and Brazilian world music according to this info here and world music's cool.
In fact it sounds like THIS band may be a buncha levels above Hootie and the Blowfish
even though I don't listen to much metal. :p

So what y'all think about this band?
I like them, and think you are either off your rocker or being a contrarian in saying they suck.
(how the heck can your poll be tied? )

I can see not liking them sure, and I'll agree they're not great, but saying they suck?

How can poeple say they suck? At worst I can see them as mediocre lovey-dovey light-rock.

Ha! I've heard better light rock.
Many artists and musicians are better than Darius Rucker and Hootie.
Like:

Hootie's songs all sound alike.
Bland
Boring
Lifeless joints
They don't touch my soul at all.
They make my soul hurl LOL

Well, does anyone think their music sucks besides that fact?
Vapid and monotonous singing and music that does not touch the heart?
I actually wish there was a petition out that took them off, cuz I'm sure I'm not the only one wishing Hootie and the Blowfish would go'on somewhere... ROFL!!! :D :D :D
I've seen folks talk about how bad their music was online. Just gotta find 'em.[/quote]

yes-
they aren't that good- not to mention they aren't exactly in stile anymore...
but you are wrong.thye have sold so many things...facts over-ride oppinions.that's like saying daugtry sucks- it's not going to happen, because they've sold over 7 million records.
the some case with hootie and the blowfish.

just stating that, again, facts over rule oppinions.that's doesn't mean that you're not entitled to have one, but if you said the sky is green, even if it's your oppinion, people may not agree, even if they think it is but know that it is indeed blue.

True, but I wonder why they actually SOLD 7 million copies and what not.

"not being in style" is not a bad thing considering the styles popular now.

But record sales are at best a fact about how many people like the band, it says nothing of the band's quality. You're committing a logical fallacy arguing popularity indicates quality.

that was rude but anyways-
yes they are popular
yes they were on ai
but if hootie sang like he,just the same, then popularity wouldn't really matter would it?and if you or i sang just as good, then popularity would not matter, either.the media would hear about us,then put us on the radio...and so on.it is a matter of age, thank y'very much.i am trying (unsucsessfully) to tell you that i agree with you, but when it comes to populareity that hootie sold enough records to be considered popular then, as other bands that have not been on ai are now.i am very much so not trying to argue.i am trying to stand for what i believe in.

I think that the amount of records they have sold indicates that your position is wrong.
Record sales don't mean squat. The Velvet Underground's debut sold about .005 copies in its first year, and now it's considered one of the most influential albums in rock history.

If Hootie And The Blowfish's music could be analyzed by an objective talent-judging machine, it would start exploding out of violent anger after 30 seconds.

If actually seen them in concert twice (hey, they were both free concerts and my best friend loves them). They are a pretty talented band. I understand that they aren't for everyone though. Darius does an amazing acapella version of Amazing Grace, btw. And then, there is always this:
