  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I started by eliminating fat (not from around my waste) but from my diet. I have lost about 65 pounds. 226 to 160 at my last Dr. appt.

Wow!!!! That is incredible! Good for you! Has it been difficult for you?

Yes. I am on a low fat diet due to my hiatus hernia and GERD. Don't seem to be losing any weight at the moment tho', maybe I need to get more exercise.
Some encouragement would be so welcome.

Exercise does help. How many grams of fat are you allowing each day?

I was on the low fat regime for a year and lost 30 lbs...however :( I cheated during Christmas and gained some back...now i am at it again.

Unfortunately my dr hasn't given me any real dietary advice, except to avoid spicy foods. I am finding that I get even more uncomfortable if I eat foods with a high fat content such as chocolate, fries etc. Some people have given my advise here in another thread, but I also found this site which may be of use:

http://www.gicare.com/pated/edtgs03.htm

I am trying to use this as a guide at the moment. It is difficult because I am so uncomfortable when I eat or drink ANYTHING....even tho' I am taking the meds regularly. :(

I am not a Dr and certainly don't qualify to give medical advise (where are you Flaglady) but since coming to Texas I have been to many of them for similar problems to yours. Was on several meds including Previcid for GERD. I don't take any of those any more. The physicians just didn't seem to do me any good so I researched the symptoms myself and have gone to an all natural regime. I am very thankful to say that I feel better now than I have for a couple of years.

:D:D:D I've been on a diet all my life ;). I've always eaten very healthy (lots of fish and skinless white meat chicken) and almost no red meat. We eat a lot of organic fruits and veggies and I only use olive oil or smart balance in cooking. We seldom eat starchy things, but occasionally have brown rice or couscous or maybe once/twice a month eat red skin potatoes or have a baked sweet potato. I walk several miles (at least three and usually five) every day. However, I've decided that I'll never be the weight I'd like to be, but my cholesterol is low for my age and I'm very strong and apparently healthy (at least that's what the doctor says), so if there's a plan out there for muscular people who are too heavy, I'd like to give it a try. I'd love to take off about 20 pounds, but really am at a loss as to why I'm even too heavy, since I don't snack, don't eat heavy desserts and stay active. HELP!!!

Valentine, how many calories do you take in/day on average?

I ask because my hubby eats very healthy and exercises regularly, but he still eats too much (quantity) and as a result, he isn't able to lose any of his excess weight, either. When he gets frustrated because he can't lose the weight even though he's eating healthy and exercising, I remind him that he needs to exercise and to eat healthy -- AND to watch those portion sizes. Too much of even healthy foods will keep the pounds on.

Blessings!

I can certainly identify. I am sure some of it is genetic. I have the frame of a person 6 inches taller than I am. I usually say I am not as over-weight as much as I am under-tall. As a matter of fact....in Jr High I was known as the little half-back.

My diet was changed because of health reasons. I was sick all the time. Docs weren't helping. If a person is healthy and lab results are good I don't know how great the concern should be for weight loss. Probably a better question in the nutrition field. I just know for me I had to change. Glad I did!!!!
