  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Any bodybuilders here?

I also have a question to all the others here: Are there fewer gym idiots at professional gyms than there are in high school gyms? When I lift, there are occasionally people who try to strike up a conversation with me, and when I do weighted push-ups, many times I am told I should stop doing them because the bench is the best chest exercise.

Unfortunatley, there are "gym idiots" everywhere, just like in life. Many view the local gym as a place to socialize and what not. They do a set and then chat for 20 minutes, monopolizing whatever piece of equipment they are using. It got to the piont that I left the gym and my wife helped me build a really nice home gym. It's not always where you lift that counts, but that you do lift.

Each person is different when it comes to weight training. If you cannot perfom the bench press because of certain physical limitations than stick with what works for you. However, if muscularity and growth are your goals, always remember that it is progressive resistance that causes this to occur.

I have been in and out of lifting ever since high school. I too wanted to be a pro bodybuilder until I had seen/heard of the drugs they use to get there. God did not intend us to do harmful things to our bodies. So I stayed away for a while, I want to lift again but naturally, the way it was originally intended. So I plan on starting my program in the next couple of weeks.

If anyone needs help or just inspiration I can try to help, but only the man above can give us true strength and it is much more powerful than ANY steroid.

Just my .02 cents....God Bless

Weight lifting is one of the best ways to exercise because of the the multi-function workout you are getting. Plus, I think everyone would rather have muscle mass rather than fat mass. I have lifted since 10th grade when I took a class in high school. Now I lift specific workouts designed for sprinters because I want to develop more strength and fast twitch muscles. I used to be worried about using lots of weight, more power lifting, but strength and tone lifting will help also. Lifting is a great way to release stress also!

I have been weight training for 30+ years and I enjoy it today as much as I did when I began in High School while playing football. After highschool I spent 10+ years in the USMC and continued weight training. I recently joined a gym again. It's geared more for serious weight training and/or body building. My wife purchased the membership for me as a Christmas present. I had been weight training at home for many years with extensive equipment I had purchased over the years. I must admit I sure do enjoy going to the gym vs. working out at home. I get a much more complete workout and it's never too busy the times I go to the gym. The hours of the gym include around the clock (24 hr operation) Monday through Friday. I am back on a six day a week schedule alternating muscle groups from day to day.

I always pray before I go to the gym thanking God for the precious gift of health to workout. I ask him to help me to get a good solid workout, too.

It's a joy and a privilege to still be able to weight train after so many years.

210 lbs for 5 reps is a one rep max of 245lbs

I've been lifting for the past 10 months. When I started I was barly able to lift 100lbs now I'm up to around 195lbs at 8 to 10 reps (depends on what day you catch me on). When I started I was weighing at about 134 now I'm up to 155. 90% of it is muscle.

Yes, I am a competitive bodybuilder. I recently won the overall at the NPC Natural Northern USA in October, 2003. I'm preparing for the 2004 season. Contrary to what has been stated in earlier posts, competitive bodybuilding does not automatically mean steroid use. I am a lifetime natural bodybuilder, but i choose to compete in tested and non-tested contests. That is to say, some of my competitors use drugs and others do not.

I have been bodybuilding since Feb, 1995, but started lifting weights in high school for football. I've competed 3 times, including my first national competition last august. My next contest will be the NPC Ohio Championships in Sept, 2004. For those who are interested, my competition weight is 176. My off-season weight is currently 203. I'm 5' 7".

Totally Awesome! I am lookign forward to competing one day. although by the time I get around to it, it may be the Grand Masters! In your competition travels, have you heard of a Christian association? I would really be interested in joining and or starting one. Good luck and God bless in the '04 season!

For anyone interested...I have been able to locate the president and founder of the A.C.B.A. - Amatuer Christian Bodybuilding Association. They are located in California and with God's hand and guidance, there will be a chapter in Indianapolis, Indiana. For any one interested, I will update with information as it comes. Perhaps there are others in different cities that would be interested in opening chapters in their city and we, as bodybuilders, can spread His word!
