  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, you accept Jesus as lord of your life, accept his death on the
cross as payment for your sins, repent and turn from those sins,
and you receive the holy spirit that helps you learn things. Then
you go read and study the bible.

That is how you will know the truth.

Perhaps in spiritual matters. Not in worldly ones. In that case you can easily fool yourself.

I just wonder how anyone can say they know for sure about anything.

Your remarks here remind me of Bill O'Reilly..... "The tide comes in, the tide goes out. We don't know [how this happens]. So, I'm throwing in with Jesus." :D

I hope you realize you are not making much sense.

No, you of course are the one who is not making any sense.

I pointed out that Jesus spoke in allegories all of the time. You then started to preach at me and I again pointed out the error of relying on the Bible for material purposes. It can be shown to be wrong time after time in that regard. That is an extremely poor use of the Bible. Then you were not honest and claimed you were answering a question of mine. My question required no preaching for an answer.

If you are a realist how would you know anything unless you test it.
I just told you: reread my post.

I also wonder if you might ask yourself why is it that many atheists do not look at the Bible, but instead read commentaries from websites that the Bible is wrong.

No problem. :)
Okay, I've now asked myself that question. My answer is that I can think of a number of reasons why that would be true of many atheists, none of them particularly interesting to me.

You have to be real specialists in this area to know something without even watching it.

Well, the "ancient aliens" and "conspiracy" parts kind of let you know where the thing is going.

The answer is they already have a preconceived idea, websites, and such that the Bible is "wrong" or Christianity is an bad thing.

So they would not even look inside on the Bible.

All they know are the "bad" parts that some websites collected just for them.

We need to learn how to make a judgement based on what WE see, what WE hear, what WE know, not how it if gift-wrapped. :)

Which I have. Still skeptical.

I can give MANY examples, many of which you may not adhere to. But one that is pretty universal among Christians is the idea that an infinite being (Jesus) can significantly experience finite suffering.
If one is infinite, it contains the finite in it.
An infinite number of finites makes infinity.
It is reasonable that the infinite would be able to taste what a limited life is.

Another one is the idea that an omnipotent creator imbibes us with free will. If he can create any universe he wants, with infinite possibilities, but chooses to make this specific one, how can we make any choice but the one he knew the result of when he chose to create this universe?
Because our existence in this world also affects others.
Salvation of each individual is preparation of one's heart, mind and soul to be willing to be drawn in a direction of Christ.
That preparation is being taught to us since birth by examples in life, encounters (good or bad) and other people.
Anyone is born to also influence someone else.
Even if God knows that in the end John would not receive him, John needs to be born, because his life needs to make an impact on someone else. Everyone has a chance to be saved.
Let's assume John is evil and enjoys torturing little animals.
This was a repulsive example in Mike's life and he decided to follow in another example.

The 3=1 trinity.
Same principle as below.

Jesus=100% man and 100% god
Take a visible individual and take an invisible individual and put one into the other.

God is omnipotent, but can't lie
God cannot lie because his will not lie.
He is a good Being. And His will is so strong that lying is out of question.
He cannot lie.
Anyone certainly has a capacity to say something that is not true.
Just open your mouth and say it. Not much potency in doing that.

I'm not against the possibility. Just haven't seen the one that makes any sense, logically.
How many senses do we have? Very few. We can't even see the microwaves.
If someone created us and everything around us (including the invisible), He certainly is beyond our senses.
It is very reasonable to assume there is a Life Form who created all.
Unbelievable? Sure. But certainly not unreasonable, not illogical.
We all create and make things at our own level.

The more reasonable possibility is to believe there is a creator of the highest level who created all this.
It is not a reasonable possibility that all gradually came from nothing by itself.

Thanks,
Ed
