CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sooo you are complaining about an entire nation of people being small minded (because you know all of that based on one conversation with someone) while making small minded statements about others and implying they should all be like you? The irony of this situation is amusing. LOL, BTW you are off topic on the OP's thread. For someone who is so militant and rude about that in their own threads you would certainly think you would respect that in other peoples' threads, lol!

I also think that plays a part as to how Americans might not always know that much about other countries. The size of the country means that there's a lot going on, and once news/media outlets have covered all the relevant local stuff that has the most impact on those watching/reading, there's not always a lot of room left for international news, and it may have to be quite a major story for it to be brought to the forefront.
And that's not something that's exclusive to America. In South Africa there's a fair amount of news about the US elections, and Brexit featured quite prominently, but other than that international news tends to be major events like the Nice attack in France. There are plenty of countries I never hear anything about - Canada for example, and it's not as though they're some small and insignificant country.
While there is the stereotype of the ignorant American, other countries also have their fair share of ignorant people. I don't whether it is in fact more prevalent in America, but I do think there is an element of people deliberately highlighting examples of ignorance in order to reinforce the stereotype.
While I haven't interacted with that many Americans on a personal level, and most of the time it's been in a professional capacity, which is a different sort of interaction, I wouldn't classify any of them as "ignorant". They might not have known all that much about South Africa, but they were aware of that and certainly didn't simply spout off uninformed statements.

I'm an American who does try to keep up with world news, but I also have to admit that most international events aren't going to impact my life in a noticeable way, so it's not a top priority when I'm busy. Short of the collapse of civilization, I have very little to worry about, living in the most powerful country on Earth. I recognize that this is a privilege which most of the world does not share.

I love America, I think it is so rad. I don't believe in being a jerk about it, but neither do I believe in apologizing for loving or being an American. The fact is that all people, individuals and nations, have fallen short and are Sinners before God.
However, I do believe that America is special in that the relatively short period since its existence, it has allowed opportunities for people to accomplish great things. I would not want to live in any other country. I do hate this current American president and his administration though. I also believe that America won't last and our liberties are being attacked one by one.

I expect collapse of civilization isn't so completely unlikely, there are real threats to it, inclusive of what comes from what we could stop doing. As a believer I see godliness that can be involved in stopping any of those things, and any involvement with any such things with choices we make, if that were done. America is not really involved in the prophecy that is shown of what is coming in the end days of the history of this world, with tribulations shown in that, and judgments to come. There are then no reasons to just expect America will stay just as strong or just as significant in this world, through the times to come. There are godly changes we can do, even those of us here in America, to have God's providence for those of us doing such, still. And our country can do better with that.

But other nations have this as well, like britain has the 'we will never be slaves, rule britannia' patriotism. China had always thought of itself as 'the middle kingdom' and thus the centre of the universe. I think if you born in a country that has been good to you and provided everything you need, then why leave?
I know many people who emigrate, for other opportunities elsewhere and many who immigrate into my own country. Its interesting to hear of their reasons for leaving or coming. Most of the ppl who I know stayed in america love it, but I also know ppl who left. The funny thing is, they didnt leave cos they hated america or where refugees, they left cos they met someone who wasnt american.
A young nation with a bigger population and more available land will have more opporutnities than one that is war torn and troubled.
