• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you panic any other times? What are your symptoms? Like - what do you feel like when you are panicking? Relaxation techniques can work really well, but you may need to talk to a therapist. They can help you learn how to relax, and maybe help you find why you panic or different triggers.

I used to be the same way. But now I pray to Jesus and say .."look, J.C., I can't watch my mom 24 hours a day. Could you watch over her for me and make sure she's gonna be alright. I love my mom and wouldn't want anything bad to happen to her." Thank God that God exists, otherwise people like us would be in deep ****.

In response to the failing of your test. I did very poorly on my MCATS and I have been wanting to go to med school since high school.. I tried to take a college course on the MCATS (a second course after kaplan) and it still wasn't working too well. I got burned out.

Then I almost broke down and tried praying what the hell is wrong with me? That's when I started getting my depression. But after a couple of years, I found out that medical school really sucks! You don't get sleep and study 24 hours a day. I didn't need the money that a doctor makes and I found out there's other ways to help people.

My point is, as long as you have a good heart, God will lead you to better paths in life. sometimes what you want is not really good for you. I wanted a certain guy really bad, but he turned out to just want to go to the sack all the time! He never took me out and was abusive.

Now I thank God that sometimes the things I wanted didn't turn out. Now I'm hoping that someday I might finish my screenplays and sell them and break into the Hollywood business. If that never works, that's okay too because maybe there's something better in store. you never know. everyone's life is already planned out...according to the bible

Miss Laughter,

It sounds like you've got some kind of anxiety disorder. Please get help for this. I can certainly identify with what you're saying. I worry extensively myself, and it's hard for me to stop.

Smash_Kate: It sounds like you're giving some pretty good advice here. I hate to say it, but after reading your testimony, I'm kinda hesitant to go back to school myself ;) (though I certainly never planned on med. school). Just out of curiousity, why don't you ever post in OBOB? There's tons of awesome Catholics there who would love to chat with you (and I'm just one of them ;) ).

Miss Laughter,

I would say you definitely have an anxiety disorder. Talk to you doctor or therapsit about it. They can help you!!

Read in Matthew were Jesus teaches us about worry. He tells us that "God even feeds the sparrow, are we not more precious than they"

You just gotta learn to trust God with these things. You can't be everywhere all the time, and take care of everyone, but God is!

Please do seek some help for your anxiety. It will start to affect you physically.

when you start panicking, try to shift your sensory perceptions. if you are sitting, stand up, if you are standing sit down. try to keep both your feet on the floor- it provides a sense of "stability" for your body. breathe deeply. it puts more oxygen into your brain and musicles and its harder to freak out when your body is getting oxygen like that. (the heavier amounts of oxygen help your muscles relax). burn sweet smelling candles or carry some nice scented oils to smell. close your eyes or open them. shifting things like this can help break that panic. but talking to a therapist is a good idea. they can help offer advice and suggestions as to how you can break those cycles of panic as well.

i am praying for you.
