Adventist end time beliefs?

I recently received a mailer about a 3 night session called "prophecies of hope" on the book of Daniel and Revelation that is being held in several 7th Day Adventist churches in my area. While I am of a different denomination, if I decide to attend, what might I expect to find in such a conference?

You might think that is a ridiculous idea and how can a church base it's belief on just a single commandment. Well that is what they have managed to do and they even have an end time scenario to match. It's all about how they packaged the seventh day product.

The mark of the beast is the Sunday worship day. The one world government will introduce a compulsory day of rest (Sunday) for the entire world. All who decline this Sunday as a rest day are slaughtered by that one world government. It's a bit confused on this point though, because the entire population of the world is not Christian.

So why would a one world government be interested in a Sunday rest day, instead of a Saturday rest day, well that is what escapes me.

What causes more confusion; is that they claim that the Catholic church changed the day of rest from the seventh day (Saturday) to the first day (Sunday). When you research church history, you find that the second century churches honored the first day (Sunday). The Catholic church is not in charge for another two centuries and even then there are churches that disregard. The authority of the Roman church. They will deny this of course because they have an agenda.

So, all in all, you will get only the SDA version of history. The SDA interpretation of the scripture. And finally, only the SDA end time scenario.

Hogwash. There are 10 commandments, not 1 and not 9. It sounds that we are concerned with only the 4th quite simply because nobody thinks there is a problem with not committing any of the rest. Nobody will argue with not murdering nor stealing or committing adultery or any of the rest. There is a problem with the 4th and with what actual is the truth about it and what the bible actually says about it. We are not saved by keeping the commandments, we keep them because we are saved. As for the rest, there is emphases on what the bible says about prophecy---how the bible interprets itself, not how anyone, including us interprets it. The bible actually does say what earth, waters, creatures, and so forth mean, it tells you. We in no way do we believe we are the only ones saved. What a lot of people believe we believe is pure hogwash. Go and find out for yourself what we teach instead of what others says we believe.

I would suggest that you go and see and hear for yourself what is being presented rather than listen to people that have other beliefs tell you what they believe what SDA teach.

The Lord wrote the ten commandments with his own finger and they are called the
ROYALl LAW. The other three sets of laws (dietary, civil and sanctuary) that were given to Moses out of the mouth of the LORD are what are refereed to as the Law of Moses.

The ten commandments were placed in the ARK of the TESTAMENT as they define the character of GOD and his love for his creation. The other three laws written by Moses were placed on the outside of the ARK of the TESTAMENT.

"Daniel's dream describes a little horn that arises from among the ten horns of the fourth terrible beast. The little horn power represents the Antichrist and is described in Daniel's dream with great detail so that we can clearly identify who this end-time enemy will be. Since we don't want to make any mistake, it is essential that we correctly identify this power.

Daniel 7 gives us very precise identifying features of the horn, and every single one must apply in order to make an accurate identification possible. The 13 features are as follows:

1. It arose out of the fourth beast.
2. It came up among the ten horns.
3. It came up after the ten horns had been established.
4. It was to uproot three horns.
5. It was to be greater than the others.
6. It was to be different than the others.
7. It was to have eyes like the eyes of a man and speak great words against God.
8. It was to make war on God's saints.
9. It would think to change times and laws.
10.The saints were to be handed over to it for a time and times and half a time.

12. It shall reign until the Ancient of Days comes.

The Antichrist power has to fulfill all of the characteristics given in the Bible. It cannot meet only some of them."

The whole SDA scheme collapses when Jeremiah and Hebrews say the New Covenant replaced the Old Covenant. There are no Sabbath requirements in the New.

I almost fell out of my chair in shock when I first discovered that SDA's teach that ridiculous doctrine!

Brother Anderson (a former SDA) has a website in which he refutes the ludicrous doctrine that the near the end of time the "mark of the best" of Revelation 14 will be placed upon those who worship on Sunday instead of Saturday.

Would you like the answer from actual Seventh-day Adventists posting on this thread??

They will point out that in Daniel 2 the king of Babylon gets a dream that is explained by Daniel as covering the 4 great world empires of that region -- starting with Babylon and then Medo-Persia and then Greece and then Rome and then a divided kingdom in Europe after which comes the 2nd coming and the destruction of all man-made kingdoms on Earth.

The NIV study Bible will also point out pretty much the same sequence.

Then in Daniel 7 it will expand on that sequence giving even more details regarding the 1260 years of dark ages and also the great judgment in heaven that will take place while saints on earth are being persecuted - just before the 2nd coming.

Then in Daniel 8 even more detail as it zeroes in on the judgment solution which when completed will stop all the persecution of the saints

Then in Dan 9 - it introduces the 490 year (70 week) prophecy predicting the first coming of Christ which was an all important subject for the Jews of Daniel's day and is also key to understanding apocalyptic timelines.

In Revelation 11,12,13 they will point out how it covers a lot of the same dark ages period that Dan 7 mentions.

You are not supposed to leave your house on the Sabbath.

A. That is not the pre-cross teaching of Christ or of any OT author.
B. that is not what they will teach at that seminar
C. Even the most orthodox Jews of today - have no such rule in all of their man-made "additions" to scripture.
D. You are stretching Exodus 16 to an extreme that no scripture supports.

But for those interested in actual "context" -- and so then "exegesis" in Ex 16 we have this ...

“This is what the Lord meant: Tomorrow is the Sabbath observance, a holy Sabbath to the Lord. Bake what you will bake and boil what you will boil, and all that is left over put aside to be kept until morning.” 24 So they put it aside until morning, as Moses had ordered, and it did not become foul nor was there any worm in it. 25 Moses said, “Eat it today, for today is the Sabbath to the Lord; today you will not find it in the field. 26 Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will be none.”
27 It came about on the seventh day that some of the people went out to gather, but they found none. 28 Then the Lord said to Moses, “How long do you refuse to keep My commandments and My instructions? 29 See, the Lord has given you the sabbath; therefore He gives you bread for two days on the sixth day. Remain every man in his place; let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.” 30 So the people rested on the seventh day.

Two key details

1. "TODAY is the Sabbath.. TODAY you will not find it in the field" is not a case of Moses going personally into the tent of 6 million homes and giving them a speech.. .they had to obviously be gathered outside their homes to hear that being said to them. Thus ending the non-serious reuse some folks would have people believe.

2. The context is "some of the people WENT OUT TO GATHER" on the Sabbath. This is what is being opposed with the solution "stay in your place. let no man go out" ... i.e. "go out to gather"
