This can happen on PM - I am not sure if the Mods would see this?
They can see it. They can even read edited/deleted posts and PMs. But someone who's a bad apple would probably produce a fake name. A way around that might be to make members pay a fee with a credit card. But even that wouldn't tell the forum which Carl Emmerson you are. I'm not saying you have a bad idea. It's just that it's hard to make it work and probably very few would go along with it. The only way to stay safe from someone saying something that might upset you is to stay away social media altogether. There's an old saying that goes "don't internet if you can't internet".

I find it interesting that many among us hate any form of regulation.

I have started a bible study on another forum and set it up so that participants had to first agree to the Nicene creed.

This upset members that incessantly attack the foundations of the faith. They think they should be able to do this as of right.

I would never give my name to a free platform run by a third party. It wouldn't matter if it was Christian or not. Nor would I verify my identity with a government ID.

If you want an environment devoid of drama it must be paid. I have several memberships and the moderators don't have a smidgen of the issues you encounter on other platforms. Money attracts a different demographic and the more it costs the more pleasant it is.

That probably isn't what you wanted to hear but it's true. Moderation takes a lot of time and energy and in most cases it's done by volunteers. I don't expect perfection from a free service. It's unrealistic.
