You want to see the worst in Creationist non-thinking and scientific idiocy just take a gander at:

www.theyoungearth.com

It's a doozy.
Hey Chi_Cygni thanks for the link, very interesting, lot of good info. I did spot a few things that maybe would be better off not there. But theres plenty of sound science, if you have eyes to see and ears to hear, and a mind unclutered with evolutionary biased views. Thanks i enjoyed the site.

Please give me one example of sound science on that site. I looked pretty hard and don't recall seeing any.

One example. Critical thinking skills is a must for science. Some of the assumptions that evolution makes are so far out that they should be discarded.Yet there held on to religiously to keep the evolutionary structure intact. .http://www.theyoungearth.com/ayoungearth/id14.html

That may be good advice.

But when you learn how to think through a fundamentalist and literalist interpretation of a 2,000 year old book, your ideas are not gonna jibe well with reality. On top of that, they are dangerous theologically. And they certainly do not involve "critical thinking."

1.) That link addresses geology, not evolution. That the author (and yourself) confuses the two is telling.

2) The author would have us believe that the assumptions he mentions are true of ALL dating methods. This is not the case. The assumptions that are used in some dating methods have been show to be valid assumptions because they can be checked against methods that do NOT use the same assumptions or that use a different set of data.

The correlation between dating methods validates the assumptions in any one of them are correct. The correlation is so constant that we can assume the assumptions are true and valid.

Just because it is an assumption, doesn't mean its wrong. Science makes these types of valid assumptions ALL THE TIME. The author is arguing against valid scientific method and should be laughed at for doing so.

You are misconstruing my words.

I didn't say I rejected the Bible - I just don't believe it is literal truth. I would have to become an atheist or agnostic if I had to accept it literally because the Bible is known false on many issues of fact.

The vast majority of Christians worldwide know this but especially in the US there is a fervent branch or Protestant fundamentlism that is set on dragging us back to Medieval belief and superstition.

a lot of people around here have been quoting this site verbatim. It may be wrong, but at least it is easy to understand.

the problem with sending people to a REAL science site is they have to read it, they have to understand it, and then they have to think about it. I don't think most of the people who take this "young earth" site as truth can think critically.

added on edit: if these people can continually accuse me of not being a Christian, then I can call them stupid for not understanding science, right?

Well.... a more valid tactic would probably to just report them every time they do it. They'll probably eventually learn. And if not, they won't be around either for it to matter. It IS breaking Rule No. 1 of the forums.
