  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A new error

Is this thread even about the Caananites anymore?
It was never about the Caananites since the OP used it to launch a false attack against atheists.

He seems to think that only atheists believed that the Caananites were wiped out, when I have never heard any atheism make such a claim since they really could not care less about this aspect of history.

I have heard Christians claim that they were wiped out and they used some of the same claims that the OP did.

At any rate using the OP to launch a false attack against others guarantees a massive derailment, though it could have been an interesting topic.

You're building something of a straw man. That the Bible contains accounts of real historical events and people is not denied by anyone.

I do not understand what you mean here. I am opposing the fact that based on these scientists study they are saying the Biblical account is false BECAUSE Canaanites continued to exist and contributed to the gene pool, but in fact this confirms what the Biblical account says (not denies or contradicts it). Indeed they did continued to exist, just as the Bible reports.

Nope, the author of Luke just made an error when the tried to force Jesus to being born in Bethlehem. But don't worry, his story falls apart for more reasons that just that.

Sir William Ramseys (staunch atheist) the close associate and comrade of Robert Ingersoll (staunch atheist) spent 10 years challenging Luke-Acts for its historical veracity and went all over exploring the facts and in the end he determined Luke to be a historian most excellent and his facts most sound. So as for the people, places, and events (and timing) mentioned therein these things have been solidly confirmed...but what do any of these diverting topics have to do with this new genetic confirmation of another Biblical truth?

Just KNOW that when Ramseys (a teacher of the rhetoric of skeptics) really took the time to actually pursue the evidence (in order to once and for all prove it a myth) he became a believer.

Cool. People go from being non theist to theist and from theist to non theist all the time. This doesn't tell us much except, people have their own motivation that causes this to happen.

Not at all, I do not claim in the OP or think, that "atheists" are claiming they were wiped out...the OP clearly states that these scientists (atheists or not) claim that is what the Bible claimed (which it does not).

I have looked at his works and he did not really do what you said. All you have to do is to show that I was wrong on my claim about Luke's error. I doubt if you can. I have debate this before and ran into all sorts of crazy claims. None that were supported. I support my claim upon history.

Herrod... oh wait. Wut?!

The passage (regardless of the KJV translators) says "census" and it was is said that this census was first made (referring to when it had come to Judea) in the time when Quirinius was governing in Syria (a fact that has been confirmed). The census itself was first declared by Rome (and began to spread through the Empire) approximately 2 years prior (and had finally gotten around to Judea).

Except that Ramsay was never an atheist.

I agree...the point was as an atheist he went on this fact finding journey to dispute the history of Luke and found it confirmed in every way (not the God stuff but the history...people, places, events, and so on)

It should be so what can you add...we know the ancient people of what we now call "Jordan" (Moabites and Ammonites) intermingled with Canaanites so why would these scientists bring them up at all as relevant to their point? Of course their genetic markers would still be present at a later time...
