I haven't read all of this - it is, frankly, too painful!
I love so many people here who are confused and hurting.
So - please, can we not make it worse by arguing about it ,
What is done is done - we need to concentrate on making sure that this is still a place where God's glory can be seen, and where His love is displayed.
So, praying for Erwin, for CF, and for everyone here. Because that is the most important thing that we can do at the moment!

I am not judging the hearts of other members, but concerned for members that will be lead the wrong way by trouble makers whom only claim to be christian...
There is only ONE way to be saved.

Your principle objection for several pages now has been to the fact that you cannot challenge claims to being Christian. And you have repeatedly argued that some people ought not to be allowed the title. If the forum does not do this, you have made it clear that your mission will be to handle that for them. (For the benefit of those potentially lead astray, to be sure, but nevertheless certainly your declared intent is to confront those you deem unworthy of the title, Christian.)

Is this not a judgement about their faith? about who is and who is not a Christian?
Are you not placing yourself above others when you explicitly deny them the right to such a title? Are you not claiming more authority than they over the matter of their own faith when you make such judgements? When you demand that the forum deny them such an option?

Sorry - that is not meant to be in any way critical, I am sure that you are all doing that already.
But personal insults don't get anything decided - and there seem to be a lot of those flying around.

I don't know the answers, but I do know that the way we are all handling this is not glorifying Him.
And that is very sad.

It's a controversial thing isn't it. The Christian icon is so generic - one way to address this issue is to remove the generic Christian icon and force every member to utilise a specific denominational icon such as Lutheran, or Mormon, or Atheistic Christian (never knew they existed) - so that way you know exactly what the person's background is.

From my perspective, when there were no restrictions on icon change the only real problem was with people changing their faith icon in order to post where they shouldn't. However, what began as an administrative decision on your part was interpreted by some staff as a licence to judge one's standing before Christ.

Naturally then, those that like to be able to judge others will be upset at this change.

There can be many reasons for this: avoidance of groupthink, no stated Church, or perhaps their personal beliefs don't fully alignThere are also many people that don't like to be labeled as a particular faith and like to use the Christian icon or no icon at all. with the Church they attend.

I disagree. Check out the Wikis. Ideas are tossed around by many, many people, and there is a lot of arguing -- but not much fighting.

God evidently doesn't feel like lending a hand and writing the Wiki for us, so we're left to do it the best we can.

I agree that having a mission or faith statement is a good idea; however, unless you're using it as a determining factor for some rule, it's not really a part of the rules, is it?

People need to calm down. Seriously, not that much is going to change. The main purpose of CF remains the same...discussing all thing Christian. No reason for a name change. And if you find yourself communicating with someone you don't like, or who doesn't quite measure up to your standards of faith, then just don't get in discussions with them. The reason for the change are clear: there is NOTHING good about the many groups and subgroups and sub subgroups that have formed here who spend their time talking about how awesome it is that they have the truth while talking smack about everyone else. That's going on now and that's what people here are trying to defend? Unreal. If CF looses people then so be it. Instead of making threats about leaving, just leave. There will be new members, there always are. And believe me, non Christians with no interest in the subject aren't going to suddenly become aware of this place and try to take it down. And nobody is going to spiritually abuse anyone. At least not any more than they already do now.

I have a ? for Erwin though. Will people previously banned, by name or IP address, be allowed back? Or will the old infractions/old rules stand? I'm not talking about trolls, just ordinary folk who ran afoul of the mods one too many times.

Then the effort is doomed to failure, IMO.

Changing the rules won't affect that much, if at all. To change that, the structure of CF would need to be rebuilt.

CF has been described as a city full of gated communities. Until those gates are thrown down, all the factions will remain entrenched.

It's possible to have too many forums for your own good.
