hi, i agree with u. terroble!!! u know who are happy n active n messing up around now? the non-christians. look at them. they are liberated here!! they are celebrating. LOL. too sad.

A more honest observation would be that most of the active non-Christians are busy helping rebuild the infrastructure. Right alongside the active Christians. With mutual respect.

That is what you are calling them now? Non nicene-creed believing members? They are non-Christians... Call them by what they are!
They aren't non-Christians, they are just different Christians than you. But if someone follows Jesus Christ, then they are Christian. :)

He insults every Christian by not changing the name
I'm a Christian and I'm not insulted by that, so you're making a really big generalization. :)
It's a controversial thing isn't it. The Christian icon is so generic - one way to address this issue is to remove the generic Christian icon and force every member to utilise a specific denominational icon such as Lutheran, or Mormon, or Atheistic Christian (never knew they existed) - so that way you know exactly what the person's background is.
There's one problem with it... I'm a Christian (and I accept the Nicene Creed), but I don't have a denomination. And I think I'm not the only person like that. So removing the generic icon would mean that some people won't have any icon to pick, unless some Christian icons which aren't church-specific are added (which would be cool, I'd love to have some more specific icon than just a generic "Christian"). :)

I was thinking possibly of changing the Christian icon to Nicene Christian. Which would identify the Christian icon wearing person as a Nicene Christian. What do others think?

I'm not sure... Maybe it would be good to add such an icon, but not replace it... it's a good idea to have a totally generic Christian icon for people who don't really like creeds and things like that. :)

I also have another idea about Christian icons. I suggested it once a long time ago, but the thread eventually died. My suggestion is to add some non church-specific Christian icons which would reflect movements within Christianity, not denominations. For example, Charismaticism, Liberalism, Post-modernism, Fundamentalism, Reconstructionism, New Thought, etc. :)

I'd go for that.

But, really, anyone can say that they believe anything, and always could!
So why have the icons at all? They appear to create a lot of bad feeling and judgementalism.
And it is usually fairly obvious what someone believes from their posts.

Gosh, how is this thread still going? i'm seeing a lot of hate for non-Christians in this, while I haven't been to church in a while I used to be a mildly devout Lutheran and I know for a fact that the Christian teachings tell people not to hate anyone nor to feel superior to anyone yet 88Devin07 stated non-Christians are secondary to Christians

Personally I think symbols do in fact help us prejudge each other and I think have always been a danger to this site. I used to log on here as a different user, so i am not new to this site, and i can tell you that one of the reasons I left here was the fanciful idea that this was a place where we could all be one. We were not one, the site was a failure in that regard because all we did was divide, divide divide. Each sect has its own little corner to run and hide in, and to be truthful it was a ridiculous if not Pollyann-ish idea that we could all be one.

History has proven that we cannot be one, because for the most part we choose not to be one, and as a matter of fact as time moves on we move further from being one. Like this forum.

Hmm. Rather than how icons are currently set, would it be possible for us to type in what we want to pop up when someone hovers over ours? The entirety of what we want to appear, rather than having a set prefix, I mean.
That´s what I was about to suggest.

I think the icons have led to some dissention as some have said. But having an icon is no different than having a fish symbol on the back of your car, or a Darwin fish for that matter. Do we go around tearing those symbols off the cars even if we disagree with them? No, not that I know of.
Then why do some people here wish to tear down others symbols or try and make them change it?
I would say keep the icons we have but also consider being able to use your own. However, I anticipate a few radical icons being created, some of which may draw fire.

Funny that no one seems to judge avatars though. I've seen some very non Christian ones but I haven't seen conservative Christians attacking people's avatars. Well, my sig was attacked once, but that's a sig.

Shouldn't judge symbols - I've seen hard core pagans sport crosses around their neck, and Christians who wear pagan jewelry. It's about the heart, not a symbol.

I use to have a Darwin fish. I had to replace it 3 times. I stopped replacing it when after the last time it was pried off the person also keyed my care and let the air out of my tires.
