Well, I've just read through this thread, from start to finish, has taken me hours, and to be honest I wish I hadn't bothered. As someone else wisely said, I could have stopped with Erwins first post. This thread is like a microcosm of a lot of what is wrong with CF, and you have to look over it and see, it isn't the much villified Atheists and Agnostics being hateful and generally unpleasant, it is us Christians dumping everything Christ did for us in the mud and rolling our sleeves up for a good old bloodbath. Makes me kind of sick.
I could almost forgive Erwin for reading this thread and deciding to forget about the new changes, forget about the old system, and just close the shop.
Erwin, I want to thank you for the courage you have shown to try something new, I want to encourage you in your efforts, I think what you have chosen to do is scripturally sound and much needed. You will be in my prayers.
As for the rest of us, it is time we all took more responsibility for what we say, it is time we stopped running to mods every time someone says something we disagree with, lets grow up a bit and deal with our own issues in a Christlike manner. Trying to silence those you dislike or disagree with is always going to be an excercise in futility, and I am glad that the attempts to do this on CF are coming to an end.
I'm excited to see how it pans out, I hope to help where I can.
Just on a last note, something which has struck me about some of the more reasonable comments on this thread - cf is a very different place to a lot of us. Most of the people on this board as far as I can see return to the same areas most of the time, the board is so vast it is impossible to get round it all. Because of this, when we have these discussions we are each trying to describe a city based on the few blocks that we know really well. Which IMO accounts for a lot of the different opinions people have about what might be best. The new local mod system will help with that. It will be a good and positive thing.
Finally, we aren't meant to have 'safe places'. We are going to be persecuted as Christians. If the worst we face is a bit of name calling and disagreement on an internet message board, then are we not getting off quite lightly?
