  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A few questions for atheists...

God led the march from slavery out of Egypt, and He is a tidy Guy! You thought we would see the normal waste???

Why not? Christians litter all the time.

I don't see God picking up your trash.

Doesn't matter, in any case their life is secure, totally. Our life includes more than the life inside the body here.

And yet, you still look both ways.

If it didn't matter, if you really thought your life was secure, totally, you'd cross the street blindfolded.

I'd like to ask the atheists here a few questions, one at a time, and get your responses to them. I have no "agenda" or big buildup to a "gotcha" at the end, I would just like your responses to each of the questions in this thread if you don't mind. I won't be arguing/debating what you say; they're just questions. Ok? Let's start...

Question 1: Do you believe that there was a chance merging of organic materials necessary at just the right time, circumstance, and environment to produce a living entity?

"Do you believe that there was a chance merging of organic materials necessary at just the right time, circumstance, and environment to produce a living entity?"

No, I believe that the evidence of life on Earth shows us that life began as a chemosynthetic "bacteria-like" organism.

The difference between abiotic and biotic chemistry is entirely arbitrary as it is a human-defined division. Chemistry is chemistry. Redox chemistry is the same if it is occurring in living organisms or in the surrounding environment. And ultimately, you and I are both composed of a series of redox reactions (rusting metal is a redox reaction too). So life descended from redox chemistry as evidenced by the persistence of redox chemistry in the biosphere.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. As promised, here's question 2. I've also included Google's definition of homeostasis to ensure we're all talking about the same thing...

homeostasis -- the tendency toward a relatively stable equilibrium between interdependent elements, especially as maintained by physiological processes. (Google)

Question 2: Do you believe in the existence of some form of intelligence that controls homeostasis in organisms?

"Do you believe in the existence of some form of intelligence that controls homeostasis in organisms?"

No, because there is no need for intelligence in order for equilibrium conditions to exist.

This does not answer the question.

How can Egypt have lost its labour force and then managed to get by with no change whatsoever?

I mean, obviously it would cause problems, or else why would Pharaoh have gone after them?

Jesus did what with the loves and fishes He created for the tens of thousands of people?? He had the remains gathered up. We know God and what He is like.

No that was Satan's claim. 'The angels look after you, Jesus, lest you might dash your foot on a stone, go ahead and jump off the mountain..'

The reality is that we have sound minds, and God put us here for a reason, and we are best not to try to override His timing.

Tell that to the martyrs. Sounds an awful lot like you're secure as long as you make sure not to verify it.

It seems much more likely that he inspired them all to share what they had brought.

Then why bother looking both ways if it's secure either way?
Because our life here is valuable and should be dealt with in a responsible way. God is there for us when we need Him, but I would not expect Him to protect us when we foolishly invite death and danger in.

Do you know which Pharaoh that was exactly? I suspect that the actual leader in question would have made a serious effort to wipe the records.

The issue may be what problems were given credit for the proper causes, or even what problems somehow maybe did not make it into the records..etc. Man is a filthy sinning lying lot you know.

The widely-accepted conclusion is that none of it happened, so there's no specific pharaoh to speak of. There's really not anything that connects the story to any actual leader.

However, there's a claim that the story was inspired by a revolt against Ramesses III. I'm poking around the interwebs, and there seems to be a case for Amenhotep III as well.

The martyrs did not jump off a mountain or commit suicide actually.

In a way, they did -- "Suicide by cop," as it were.

Why would he? He didn't know that Moses, or whoever it was, was going to write the story of the Exodus and the forty years in the wilderness, and he certainly didn't know that 3000-odd years in the future billions of people in parts of the world that he knew nothing about would believe that the story of the Exodus was part of the word of God. By the way, do Muslims believe the story of Moses leading the Jews out of Egypt; is it in the Quran?

Indeed they do. Just as the Hebrew scriptures constitute the Christian "Old Testament," the Hebrew scriptures plus the Synoptic Gospels fulfill the same purpose for Muslims.

What about if you expose yourself to death and danger without realising it? Through no fault of our own?

And why is your life here valuable? (Bear in mind I am not saying it isn't valuable - I think life on Earth is valuable because it's the only one we get. Since you, however believe in an eternal life after you die, I'm asking for your views on what it is about this life that makes it valuable.)
