my motivation is primarily to show people things they might not normally see. until recently, ive been mostly dabbling in photomanipulation instead of traditional photography. i feel that anything worth taking a picture of has already been photographed and that i cant add to this worlds knowledge without taking the next step and manufacturing something out of reality that expresses the extremes of reality not always seen in day to day life. im a fan of vivid colors and geometric patterns, to that end.
in traditional photography, i try to capture the beauty of the natural world, even in mundane things. a dynamic, relevant picture is a high goal for me, i rarely meet my expectations. i dont go shooting nearly as often as i should....its difficult for me because of my social anxiety disorder.
when im shooting, or creating a manipulation, i generally go for things that reflect my mood. often ill sit down, put on some music, and start working on a manipulation with a certain appearance in mind. oftentimes, as im working, my idea evolves and i have to make decisions as to where to take it.
above all, im just motivated by being myself. as myself, i feel the need to create; i write poetry and prose, i do photography, i create music, etc. everything i do contributes to the person i am, and the person i want to be is directed by the choices i make in the moment, most especially in the moment of
creation.
as for fractals, they are "a rough or fragmented geometric shape that can be split into parts, each of which is (at least approximately) a reduced-size copy of the whole". you can see an article on them and examples of them here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fractal artistically, fractals are created using programs that express mathematical parameters and produce a picture of equations. im not nearly as good with fractals as people who know how to use the programs well. mainly i just edit simple fractal renders to create art like my photomanipulations.
