  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What are the specifics of this original design you speak of?
Adam was hand-made by God. His body was superior to ours in that he lived for 900 years, even without access to the tree of life. So did his descendants for the next nine generations.

Even his diet was designed and provided by God. Vegetarian, btw:

And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed.

And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food...

...And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.

After Adam, God I assume moved away from "hand making" humans?

Yup. Now we make each other. Here's the ending of Jesus' genealogy in Luke 3. You'll notice how Adam is considered special.

...the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech,

the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalaleel, the son of Cainan,

the son of Enos, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

uh, humans do not see with UV rays, so I don't see how that would be relevant to the vision discussion. In fact, UV rays can damage our eyes.

That can't be right. We're perfect! How can naturally occurring UV rays harm my perfect eyes (through my corrective glasses)!?

If I were a deity, I would be ashamed if I designed humans. Here are some awful "design" flaws which are easily explainable with evolution, but make no sense if the human body was designed from scratch.

1. That our respiratory system and gastrointestinal system share the same tube at any point. Evolutionary explanation: building upon preexisting structures to allow for multiple functions is far more common and requires fewer mutations than the development of completely separate, independent structures. Why this is a flaw for design: choking. A deity would easily be able to make two separate tubes that were just near each other, never haveing to significantly change the positions of any other internal organs or external features to prevent the choking hazard produced by this "design", which has no benefits over two separate tubes. In fact, the tubes are separate for most of their length. But not for enough of it to prevent thousands of deaths every year in just the U.S. alone, B.E.CPR - Become Educated in CPR .

Every time I choke while eating or drinking, I say "Thank God for Intelligent Design!"

Funny how Noah built an Ark at the age of 600, isn't it?

That's some design flaw!

Now, AVET, you know that Noah could have made the ark out of paper mache, and God would have held it together. Who knows how shoddy the workmanship on the ark was?

So true!

Well, for the record, I love making this comment:

Amateurs built the Ark, professionals built the Titanic.

Yes, even though we come from our parents, God is ultimately responsible for the creation of each of us. Here's that same thought again, in Psalm 139:

For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother's womb.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.

My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there was none of them.

Being post-Flood people, we don't get lifespans like that anymore. But then, even the least person in the resurrection will live longer than the pre-Flood patriarchs.

I agree about placement, but what about eye design?

From what I understand Octopi and Birds and have better eye designs vis a vis the placement of the nerves and blood vessels of the retina. Am I incorrect?

Birds still have an inverted retina, which is shared by all vertebrates, from the lowly lancelet to frogs to humans. Apparently, if the design had a backbone (or just a notochord) in it, God was forced to flip the retina around for some unknown reason.

What are you going to say after you croak?
"Ribbet?"

So true!

Well, for the record, I love making this comment:

Amateurs built the Ark, professionals built the Titanic.

Professionals also build the QE2. And while amateurs built the ark, once again it was the hand of God that kept it from sinking. Could he not also have kept the Titanic from sinking?

The point at which they meet is a wonderful design. Food goes down, sound and speech come out, thanks to the glottis and epiglottis.
