I remember that Ebay had a huge fund-raiser for 9/11 survivors...I believe they were aiming to raise 100 million dollars, but I could never find out what the final figure was.

I remember seeing kids putting up drawings for sale, regular businesses putting up donations. Lots of things that were oriented to the USA of course.

It was wonderful to see the efforts of people from all over the place.

In Memorium....
Moment of Silence Monday
September 11, 2006 at 8:46 AM EST
In memory of those who died as a result of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and in observance of Patriot Day, President George W. Bush has issued a Proclamation calling upon the people of the United States to observe a moment of silence, beginning at 8:46 a.m. EST on
September 11, 2001, and asked the Governors of the United States and Territories to fly the United States flag at half-staff.
Accordingly, in honor of the innocent Americans and people from around the world who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, in tribute to American soldiers fighting in the Global War on Terrorism, and in observance of Patriot Day, effective September 11, 2006, until sunset, Governor Bush, in accordance with the
Presidential Proclamation, has asked that all state and local
governments join him in honoring these patriots by flying their United States and State flags at half-staff.

Bumping...

I remember my dad and a friend calling and waking me up on that 9/11 and reporting the events on my answering machine. I thought they could not be serious and the two were playing a joke on me. I couldn't believe my eyes when I got up and turned on the televison. This event led many to immediate prayer for those involved and for those who survived as well.

Keeping this thread going.

On 9-11 I was at home (Here in CA) sleeping and my mom came in my room and said, “A plain just crashed into one of the Twin Towers.” I had a TV at the head of my bad so I turned it on and not to long after I seen the other plain hit. I was in shock because I just seen the plain hit the tower live on TV. All day for the next 2 days I was by a TV watching either at home or down the street at my friends house.

We took the kids to our county's 9/11 memorial site today after church. The memorial consists of a twisted I-beam that was once part of the Twin Towers. It's twisted and broken, burned in some places.

This is the first anniversary of 9/11 that I've been able to watch all the documentaries. It's like reliving the day over and over again. But somehow I feel like I need to, in remembrance of those who lost their lives that day.

I remember being in the SAMC Medical Center in Dothan, Al. I was a Private Duty Nurse taking care of a patient of mine. It was right after the plane hit the 1st tower. I recall seeing the Plane crash into the second tower. It was gut wrenching. God bless America and all our prayer to those who lost love ones...

On Monday we emailed jokes.
On Tuesday we did not.
On Monday we thought that we were secure.
On Tuesday we learned better.
On Monday we were talking about heroes as being athletes.
On Tuesday we relearned who our heroes are.
On Monday we were irritated that our rebate checks had not arrived.
On Tuesday we gave money away to people we had never met.
On Monday there were people fighting against praying in schools.
On Tuesday you would have been hard pressed to find a school where someone was not praying.
On Monday people argued with their kids about picking up their room.
On Tuesday the same people could not get home fast enough to hug their kids.
On Monday people were upset that they had to wait 6 minutes in a fast food drive through line.
On Tuesday people didn't care about waiting up to 6 hours to give blood for the dying.
On Monday we waved our flags signifying our cultural diversity.
On Tuesday we waved only the American flag.
On Monday there were people trying to separate each other by race, sex, color and creed.
On Tuesday they were all holding hands.
On Monday we were men or women, black or white, old or young, rich or poor, gay or straight, Christian or non-Christian.
On Tuesday we were Americans.
On Monday politicians argued about budget surpluses.
On Tuesday grief stricken they sang 'God Bless America'.
On Monday the President was going to Florida to read to children.
On Tuesday he returned to Washington to protect our children.
On Monday we had families.
On Tuesday we had orphans.
On Monday people went to work as usual.
On Tuesday they died.
On Monday people were fighting the 10 commandments on government property.
On Tuesday the same people all said 'God help us all' while thinking'Thou shall not kill'.
"It is sadly ironic how it takes horrific events to place things into perspective, but it has. The lessons learned this week, the things we have taken for granted, the things that have been forgotten or overlooked, hopefully will never be forgotten again. God Bless America!"

I was sitting in class and the professor told us about a freak accident, and he was looking at the news when word came of the Pentagon hit, and then I wtched the second plane hit. He said class was dismissed, we were at war. I went back to my dorm room, I was a Rersident director and I had girls in my building who had parents there. Then we havd to find all our international students and seclude them on campus. This was mostly for he protection of our Middle Eastern students b/c word had already come of Bin Laden' involvement. It was a horrible day and week. My dorm room was full all day with frightened students, all seeking reasurance andwanting answers to their questions. The gillrs in my Christian Service Sorority gathered in my room, looking to me their Preasident for the answers. We just stayed together as a group of sisters praying and watcing the tv. What a day. It really didn;t hit me until later when i got a few minutes alone. I will never forget talking wit students with family there and trying to explain to our international students why they couldn't leave campus. i will never forget. :crossrc:

I remember just being glued to the Tv the whole day - i had the day off school and when we first heard about it ( 6:30am AEST) we thought it was a mistake or something then on every channel we watched this footage of the plane crashing into the building over and over and over again - i was 15 at the time and had never been so scared in my life and i was 1/2 a world away from all of this. We had no idea that it would seem a lot closer in the years to come.

My heart goes out to the people who lost loved ones in this tragedy

May the peace of God be with you and those you love

- Shaz
