I Am The Flag
I am the flag of the United States of America. My name is Old Glory.
I fly atop the world's tallest buildings.
I stand watch in America's halls of justice.
I fly majestically over institutions of learning.
I stand guard with power in the world.
Look up and see me.
I stand for peace, honor, truth and justice.
I stand for freedom.
I am confident. I am arrogant. I am proud.
When I am flown with my fellow banners, my head is a little higher, my colors a little truer.
I bow to no one! I am recognized all over the world.
I am worshipped - I am saluted.
I am loved - I am revered. I am respected - and I am feared.
I have fought in every battle of every war for more then 200 years.
I was flown at Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Shiloh and Appamatox.
I was there at San Juan Hill, the trenches of France, in the Argonne Forest,
Anzio, Rome and the beaches of Normandy, Guam. Okinawa, Korea and KheSan, Saigon, Vietnam.
I was there. I led my troops,
I was dirty, battleworn and tired, but my soldiers cheered me
And I was proud.
I have been burned, torn and trampled on the streets of countries I have helped set free.
It does not hurt, for I am invincible.
I have been soiled upon, burned, torn and trampled on the streets of my country.
And when it's by those whom I've served in battle-it hurts.
But I shall overcome - for I am strong.
I have slipped the bonds of Earth and stood watch over the uncharted
frontiers of space from my vantage point on the moon.
I have borne silent witness to all of America's finest hours.
But my finest hours are yet to come.
When I am torn into strips and used as bandages for my wounded comrades on the battlefield,
When I am flown at half-mast to honor my soldier,
Or when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving parent at
the grave of their fallen son or daughter, I am proud.
MY NAME IS OLD GLORY
LONG MAY I WAVE.

DEAR GOD IN HEAVEN:
LONG MAY I WAVE
PLEASE FORWARD MY MESSAGE TO ALL WHO
STILL LOVE AND RESPECT ME,
THAT I MAY FLY PROUDLY FOR
ANOTHER TWO HUNDRED YEARS.

Not sure how the blessing thing works. I just saw this link in the women's forum.

I feel like my life is a constant reminder of 9/11. Most people can live day to day and remember one day a year. But for those who have been touched, whether they lost a loved one or were there or have a family member fighting in the war on terror, the memories are a daily occurance.

I cannot even watch the news because my feelings are too raw. I haven't heard from my husband and only know that he's not safe as I write this and I worry. The 9/11 attacks were not a one day attack. People are still dying and people are still consumed with hate.

The best way to remember 9/11? Pray. Pray for those who were directly touched by a loved one's loss. Pray for those who are still laying their lives on the line while most of us can go with our daily lives forgetting that they are willing to sacrifice their lives for us.

edited to add: thank you so much RGL1, Henaynei, Glenda Joanne, KimberlyAnn, HisLambGabby and just anybody else who has said prayers for my husband. I seriously cannot even tell you how that touches me. Okay, I admit, I'm a blubbering mess right now but thank you.

I shall pray for your husband:prayer:

One of my favorites scripture can maybe be comfort for you and other soldiers wifes and of course for all people. That is Psalm 46:8 - 9.It say there

8 Come and see the works of the LORD,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.

9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear,
he burns the shields with fire.

Sister my heart goes out to you my eyes are still swollen from the crying I have done today.
Dear Lord,
Please keep my sister's husband safe while he is away defending our country. May he know that we support what he is doing we are proud of him and we thank him, and appreicate that he has put his life on the line so we may have peace and safety for our children and our homleand.
Lord keep him safe keep his wife and family strong bring him home safely dear Lord.
I ask this in the precious name of Jesus.
Amen

May this nation *never* forget - may 9/11 *never* pass unremembered, as 12/7 does - with nothing more that a few movies we hurry to skip over with the remote on that day....

i remember my mom kept calling me to get out of bed. When i came out the news showed people running, the plane ramming in, the towers falling. It was very emotional.
It saddens me that someone your age had to witness such a tragedy as many of my students did and I am sure it has impacted many of our young ones for life.
God Bless little sister
