FCC and CBS release unedited ’60 Minutes’ Kamala Harris interview amid Trump lawsuit

The Federal Communications Commission on Wednesday took the unusual step of releasing raw transcripts and video footage of CBS News’ “60 Minutes” interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris, which has sparked heated debate over the network’s credibility and press freedoms.

Paramount Global-owned CBS followed FCC Chairman Brendan Carr’s move by separately publishing its interview transcripts and footage from the October interview. CBS turned over the same material to the government Monday night, following a demand by Carr, who was appointed to the post by President Trump.

Carr said that publishing the previously unreleased footage and opening up a case file would “serve the public interest.” The FCC now plans to accept public comment.

CBS owner considers settling Trump suit over Kamala Harris’ ‘60 Minutes’ interview ahead of merger review: report

Paramount Global executives have held internal talks about settling a lawsuit filed by President-elect Donald Trump over CBS News’ interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, according to a report.
Paramount, the parent company of CBS, is hoping to close its planned merger with Skydance Media in the coming months but has been sued by Trump for allegedly favorably editing the “60 Minutes” sit-down with Harris just before the election
In recent months, it has become clear that Trump’s dissatisfaction with CBS News is proving to be a major hurdle, and it will likely need to pony up concessions to win approval, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

For those of us who can't get past the paywall, do they summarize the differences between the edited and non-edited versions?

It discusses some additional chitchat, but no particular details about that one question other than to implicitly confirm that 'both' answers were part of her answer.

innocent people pay?

Surely you're not suggesting Donald Trump is guilty of racist housing practices?

OK, ok, the case was settled with no admission of guilt, but....

"[The settlement] required the Trumps to place ads in newspapers saying that they welcomed black applicants," Kranish says. "It said that the Trumps would familiarize themselves with the Fair Housing Act, which prohibited discrimination. So it also specifically said they don't admit wrongdoing, but they did have to take several measures that the Trumps had fought for two years not to take."

President Trump just doesn’t live that big in my mind. He doesn’t invade every post. He is not the reason of every bad thing

Illegal Aliens are illegal because they came in the country illegally.

Key word. Illegal.

Wow, that's quite a segue from the 60 minutes interview with Kamala Harris.

And yet they are looking at settling the lawsuit. - IOW admitting guilt.

Settlement is not necessarily admitting guilt. I settled a few matters in my time. Not because of guilt but because paying lawyers to litigate was going to be much more costly than what the settlement cost. Sometimes it is a matter of practicality and to move things off of the news cycle more quickly.

If your lawyers are costing you close to 10 billion - you need different lawyers. It's like a fighters corner throwing in the towel, then the fighter saying, no, I didn't lose!

Settlement is always a matter of negotiated price. You never settle for the amount of the lawsuit.

You settle because you realize there is a greater chance of loosing than winning. Interesting that they were forced to release the transcripts and raw footage and THEN looked into settling.

Not always. As I said, see post 54. I was going to win all of the matters I settled, but I could settle for far less money than it would cost me to defend it and it kept my agency off the morning headline. Settlements also come with other stipulations like, "neither of us will ever talk about this again."

CBS Lawyers Say They Will Seek Donald Trump’s Personal Financial Information If President’s ’60 Minutes’ Lawsuit Proceeds To Discovery Phase

Typically, defendants in litigation seek the other party’s financial information to challenge a plaintiff’s damages claim. In this case, the $20 billion sum is more than the value of CBS’ parent company, Paramount Global, which is also a defendant in the case.

His lawsuit originally claimed a violation of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, claiming that the network deceptively edited the interview to boost Harris’ electoral chances. The basis of the claim was the fact that, in a Face the Nationpromo for the 60 Minutes interview, Harris answered a question differently than the one that was featured in the October 7 60 Minutes broadcast.

Legal observers and some industry groups, including the National Association of Broadcasters, have characterized Trump’s lawsuit as frivolous. But the litigation has proceeded just as Paramount Global is seeking regulatory approval of its sale to Skydance. While the idea behind a settlement would be to pave the way [quid pro quo] for approval of the Skydance-Paramount Global merger, according to sources, it also has created consternation and pushback within CBS News as caving to Trump on a frivolous complaint.
