I agree to a certain extent. It depends on who is in the house. If you have someone who is very young or who you know or reasonably show know is mentally unstable then you are right, BUT if you have a teenager or adult that gets hold of a gun (provided you did not know and had no reason to believe the person was mentally unstable) who then goes and does something with the gun whether it be a mass shooting, some other crime suicide whatever the case may be the person should NOT face charges.
I wouldn't argue this.
In my mind, if you want to be a responsible gun owner, you probably would take steps to be responsible with your gun(s). And that includes safe storage, maintenance, knowledge of proper handling and usage, when using it is appropriate and when it is not, etc.
It's a tool. But it is a tool that needs to be treated with proper care and respect, because if you just screw around with it, you could dang well kill yourself or someone else.
