Just another case that highlights the need for mandatory training, testing, and licensing.
I don't know, man. He got a head shot at his first try. Are you sure you want to train him?

I was referring to the parents lol.

Anyone who leaves a gun out where a young kid can easily get to it was a person who should've been denied the right to own a gun in the first place. Clearly they weren't responsible enough to have it.

training who If the boy was five that sounds like more of a case of the boy either not having been taught weapons safety or the parents not being sure to make sure the five year could not access the gun or both Having a license will not keep people from leaving their guns out. People have to have a license to drive a car, but having a license does not mean that people will not get hold of your keys if you are not careful.

That isn't funny.

Such a sad story to read and then what I think was an attempt of humour kind of jars. I'm sure you didn't mean it to be that way?

I will never understand why people think they need guns. Especially if a child can easily access it. :(
There are a number of reasons shooting at the range, self defense ( plenty of evil in this world. Even to put food on the table. Wild game is almost certainly healthier than meat at the store.

I'm OK with hunting and that is it. Otherwise, it's just looking for trouble and even causing innocent deaths. JMO

Most jurisdictions require safe storage of firearms and ammunition. Guns need to be locked away, unloaded and separate from ammunition. Leaving a loaded weapon where a child can find it is very dang close to criminal stupidity.

NRA: If only the younger brother had a gun to protect himself! The only defense against a little kid with a gun is another little kid with a gun!

On a more serious note; if you're a gun owner and do not properly secure your weapon, you are a BAD gun owner and probably should not be a gun owner.

For years, the NRA has taught kids in schools, clubs, and everywhere they can how to avoid gun accidents, should they find one. They emphasize:

1) Stop
2) Don't touch
3) Tell an adult

But, this is a stop-gap.
Responsible parenting is the key.

I agree to a certain extent. It depends on who is in the house. If you have someone who is very young or who you know or reasonably should know is mentally unstable then you are right, BUT if you have a teenager or adult that gets hold of a gun (provided you did not know and had no reason to believe the person was mentally unstable) who then goes and does something with the gun whether it be a mass shooting, some other crime suicide whatever the case may be the person should NOT face charges.

While I don't have any love for the NRA, I wonder why they haven't pushed harder on the mandatory training and licensing angle, since they'd directly profit from providing that training.

Many states have laws which basically say: "If you leave a loaded gun where a person under (___) years old can get it, and they injure themselves or others in doing so, you can be charged with a crime"

Unfortunately, no law cures stupidity.

Common sense goes am long way in cases like this. A 5 yr old is plenty old enough to learn not to touch firearms, however the parents should have had trigger locks at least. There is no excuse for this and guns should be locked or elevated and trigger locked at least. I am a hunter and I have a ccp as well so yes I carry. I am well trained and I would try to protect anyone if the need was to arise. I pray to never need it, But it is a tool, Just like my pocket knife.

The revolver in the article picture needs to be banned, and all revolvers. And while we're at it, semi-automatic pistols should be banned, along with semi-automatic rifles. And let's not stop there. Bolt-action rifles can be used to shoot targets from long distances with great accuracy. And with shotguns, look out! You don't even have to be a good shot to create some real carnage.

Think of the children. Ban all firearms! That way, the only people with guns will be the bad guys and the cops. And when someone is armed and breaking into your house in the middle of the night, or if you're about to be raped, you won't have to worry, because the cops will be there within seconds to ward off the bad guys. Or at best, lay down, curl up and take whatever is coming your way.

Let's capitalize on this tragic story in order to push a political agenda. Let's dance on the grave of the child who got killed, just to make a point.

The problem is that many of the "self-defence" crowd don't believe in safe storage, because it runs counter to their very reason for having a gun.
