• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Congrats on 8 days!

Many people do not understand what happens when you take away the drug/alcohol or well anything that we are addicted to.
These substances have taken over the natural chemicals called dopamines in our brain, and causes them to over produce.
A good way to picture your brain right now is like a burnt down forest with no natural chemicals, this is why the craving is so strong, the brain is trying to balance.
They will come back if you stay sober in time.
So with this lack of natural chemical we have to surround ourself's with prayer, support, and knowledge of addiction.

Pray and turn things over to God

Going to meetings

Staying away from anyone who drinks or does drugs. ( The addiction is in the sub-conscience) We "do" want to stay sober in our conscience, but being in slippery situations can easily trigger a relapse which starts in the subconscience... very powerful without us even knowing it, and soon we are using again.

Getting a strong support of sober people around you, and call them.

Find good ways to calm yourself

Eat really well, your body is healing.

Get a sponsor, and work on things about yourself... Many things we avoid about ourself's cause us to use or relapse.

Do some research on relapse prevention.

White knuckling it is when you just try and use your own will power, it is so very hard and many relapse.

Try not to let the enemy come in and discourage you or tempt you, which I promise it will happen. God is with you and wants the best for you. He will give you the strength and direction.

You have many praying for you Meblonde, I am more than happy to answer any questions as well as others on here, without judgement. You are not weak or dumb for asking, but doing what every single one of us have done/does to stay sober.

With much love....:groupray:
