Telling people in the first century that His Thief's coming would befall THEM, so THEY needed to WATCH for it, is indeed the doling out of an idle threat, if, as you say, it Never Happened TO THEM.

I believe the Lord was clear about it, Himself....

"But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is. But know this,- Pay attention, Jesus is telling you something important, something you need to know, as its vital.

that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come- If you know Christ is coming then you will be the best Christian you can be so that you are counted worthy.

I'm an extreme conervative confessional Lutheran, and I was very successfully ex-communicated with a threat of a tresspass warning for rising up against a Church leader that was a Mason, ie, I personally have nothing aginst Masons, however not in the Church.

They had a very effective means, and were even very nice about it, ie, don't ever come back Jack and find another Church. Later I heard there was a black list on the Internet somewhere, ie, I was on it, ie, never did find it?
