  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

"Miraculous Medal" card found -- what's the best thing to do now?

Hi OBOB! Yesterday I was going through the last few duffle bags of things that used to belong to my father, who passed away about four years ago now. As I believe I've posted before (but long ago), my father was raised Catholic in the pre-VII church, but as he used to say, it "never took". So...

    Venerating saints not yet canonized

I would like to see Pope Benedict XVI, requiscat in pace, memory eternal, be glorified as a saint. Until the RCC officially beatifies and canonizes him, what are the rules concerning his veneration? For example, are Roman Catholics allowed to refer to people not officially canonized or in the...

Names of people to pray for

I have a list of the baptismal names of various people, including Orthodox Christians, Catholics, Anglicans, Lutherans and traditional Protestants, some of whom are deceased, which is categorically organized so that people can be prayed for liturgically in the right way. For example, the...

I love Catholicism but cannot be Roman Catholic. What should I do?

Good Evening, I'm in a really tough and, in many respects, weird situation theologically. I grew up in the Roman Catholic Church, and I greatly admire it in many ways. I think Catholic critiques of Protestantism that suggest the movement has become a theological mess are fair, although I do...

    Sola Scriptura vs. Nuda Scriptura

A member in another thread asked me an interesting question, which I have posted here to avoid derailing the thread and also to not give the misleading appearance of criticizing anyone participating in that thread, for nothing in this reply was written in response to the comments or beliefs of...

Even "mother" Teresa Pushing for Mary to be Considered "co-redemptrix"?

This article, years ago when it first came out, was very eye-opening to some deeper implications. Given that there were/are millions of catholics worldwide who believe Mary should be elevated as becoming a fourth member of the Trinity, which included "mother" Teresa giving her whole-hearted...

Vatican launches $110 smart Rosary bracelet that tracks your prayers

The Vatican has launched a $110 “eRosary” in a bid to encourage tech-savvy Catholics to pray. Launched Tuesday, the wearable smart device links to an app designed to teach users how to pray with Rosary beads. The eRosary, available on Amazon as well as the Vatican’s own website, can be worn...

    Treatment of the Diptych(s)

[By this, of course, I mean the diptychs in a liturgical setting, not the common art term for icons and paintings set in a diptych (two-fold) arrangement.] The diptych was once a literal object kept in the local church, made of wax tablets onto which the names of the living and departed...

    The Fatima Apparitions

Recently, we Catholics celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun, the final apparition of the Holy Mother to Sts Francesco, Jacinta, and Lucia in Fatima, Portugal. One of the primary "demands" of the Blessed Mother was that Russia be consecrated along with the World by the Pope...

Are you for or against the death penalty?

On this issue, I agree with Pope Francis who leads the Catholic Church. Too many innocent people have been killed after being wrongly convicted and wrongly sentenced to the death penalty. On top of that, society does not have the right to take life to show that taking life is wrong. It is, to...

    Mary above all

I was raised Catholic, though I never really felt the urge to study its doctrine further than what I know now. I used to attend this fantastic Catholic Church, made some friends, we would study the doctrine (without the Bible!), sing and so on. On one trip of ours to Lourdes, France, I asked...

    Non-duality (Orthodox/Roman)

[Caution: Much of what will be discussed is unorthodox to Protestantism, Anglican, Lutheran and Calvinism. I'm not interested in debate just interested in tossing some ideas out there for discussion with my Protestant/Calvinistic brothers and sisters.] Ok, here goes, I took a break from my...
