  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Namaste - is it okay for a Catholic to use the word while greeting people of the Hindu/Buddhist faith

Is it okay for a Catholic to say namaste while greeting a Hindu, Buddhist or any other person? Namaste means, “The Divine within me bows to the same Divine within you.” Clearly the meaning is opposed to Catholic doctrine. Seeking Catholic advice, inline with the Catholic Church's...

Can you help with this quandary?

Hello, I wonder if you might help me work out this for me? A little background first, so bear with me as its relevant. Hugely influenced by Buddhism for many years, I mean decades - I had an experience that dictated I started to develop a faith in Christ. I won't go into the details, but it...

Concerning Chinese, Japanese and Korean Christianity

This thread is a reply to certain posts concerning Chinese Christianity in my thread on potentially heterodox parishes and local churches, as this formed the basis of an interesting discussion with @bbbbbbb @MarkRohfrietsch and @FireDragon76 which was off-topic to the previous thread: What I...

    Christian therapies/techniques to overcome depression?

I have dealt with depression for a number of years now. I have never technically been diagnosed but I am not happy in general. I have done some counseling over the years but never anything consistent. My main struggle is bitterness over things that have happened in the past. I am just not sure...

In East Asia in Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan and Vietnam. In China, and Vietnam, shaking hands or a slight bow have become more popular than a full bow.[2][3][4][5] However, bowing is not reserved only for greetings; it can also be used as a gesture of respect, with different bows used for...

How The Multiverse Can Unite Religions

From: String theorist Michio Kaku: 'Reaching out to aliens is a terrible idea' Stephen Hawking said that he didn’t believe in God because the big bang happened instantly and there was no time for God to create a universe, therefore God couldn’t exist. I have a different point of view. My...

    Questions about Buddhism

Hello, I'm curious about what the points of similarity are between Christianity and Buddhism. Anyone here who is a convert from Christianity to Buddhism, or just very familiar with both, who can highlight anything the two religions have in common? I'm also curious about the sense of self in...

    Denominations

I'm a Buddhist, but I'm curiously drawn to reading the Bible and feel a certain comfort in reading and holding it. In Buddhism we do have different schools and styles, but for the most part, we respect each others denominations and see them all as valid. I find Christians seem to have much...

    Buddhist Sunyata

The Buddhist idea of sunyata, or emptiness, is a central tenet of the Madhyamaka school of Mahayana Buddhism. My basic understanding of this concept is that it is a correlate of the Buddhist idea of dependent arising such that all phenomena are dependent/contingent and do not have being in and...

Yoga, Meditation & Mindfulness - Spiritual Practices

*This entry can also be found on my WordPress blog. I’m going to start taking a careful look at various secular and non-Christian sources on exactly why we need to be concerned with Eastern/Occult/Mystical/New Age practices such as yoga, meditation, mindfulness, reiki, chakra alignment, energy...

Why Buddhism Is True (by Robert Wright)

I recently read the book "Why Buddhism Is True" by Robert Wright. In the book, he outlines why and how various ideas in Buddhism align very well with modern psychology and neurology. As we learn more about how the brain functions, it seems that science regularly confirms some basic notions of...

    Hey I'm Davis. I'm new : )

I was raised Catholic, I went to a private catholic school from pre-k to 3rd grade. After 3rd grade I made a very stark transition to public school. It gave me a fascinating point of view. I think that the matter of faith has always interested me. Religion is a very present feature in life and...

How many have ever found nirvana? Is reincarnation something empiric?

To answer quickly: Not many at all. So, as a former Buddhist, a convert to Christianity, I'd like to know what the reason for spending a life according to the teachings of Buddha, when it's virtually impossible to reach ultimate enlightenment? I'd also like to question how Buddhism could be...

If an atheist asks you, "why are Christians right and Hinduists/Buddhists wrong"?

Hi guys, I'm looking for this sort of evangelical advice. Arguing against atheism isn't that difficult since there's no explanation the the creation of the initial singularity during Big Bang other than a supernatural power. But imagine such situation. Let's say the atheist agrees with you that...

    I'm starting to remember why

I remember why I disbelieved for a while. I was very depressed off and on and had a blog on tumblr of uplifting things so I could go through it and feel better.
