    40 days after death

I am reading "the inner kingdom" by Bishop Ware and he says that the period 40 days after death the bond between the departed and living is closest. Why? I was thinking about the 40 days after the resurrection but really dont know why this is taught.

    Cant believe hes dead

4.5 years is no short time when you love someone. I've been with my husband about that long. Lord have mercy. I will say a prayer for you tonight. Yes, my mom knew my dad so long. Its heartbreaking and part of the reason I dont want to leave her alone in her grief.

    Cant believe hes dead

Hi. Thanks again, your words are a comfort and I can tell you've been there which is helpful to me now. My parents were married 36 years. They met at 13 though. My moms love was in some ways sacrificial as she took care of my dad and their life revolved around his career and his interests with...

    Cant believe hes dead

Thank you for that. My dad has been gone a little over 2 weeks now and my mom is only getting worse. I understand what you mean about everyone being different. She has a lot of anger toward the driver who killed my dad while I work hard to see it as an accident and not dwell on that part of...

    Cant believe hes dead

Thank you for your words. Yes my mom has faith but no church. Shes Lutheran daughter of a deacon but has let her issues keep her away from joining a church for many many years. She did have a pastor for my dads service and has expressed interest in his church. I will likely need to go with her...

    Cant believe hes dead

Yes I've thought of that. Its complicated by having her first and only grandchild and wanting to be a part of their life. They were dad to have to move here a year ago when dad lost his job. Our last conversation before he died was about wanting all of us to be closer. So sad. Thanks for your...

    Cant believe hes dead

Thank you. My uncle suggested she would be ok by herself too and that she would move to be near us in time. But shes said she wants us to stay here a while. She also said she finds where we live depressing (northeast city vs the deep south, i cant blame her) So I don't know. We will see.

    Cant believe hes dead

My dad was hit by a motorist on the 15th while walking his dog. He would have died at the scene but they put him on a ventilator. He was brain dead right away. 59 years old. Healthy. We just saw him a few days ago. He just became a grandpa to our 9 mo old baby. It feels unreal. We are half the...

    Prayers

Tomorrow is my dad's memorial service and the last time I see his body. He was tragically struck and killed by a motorist while walking his dog last Saturday morning. He wasn't Orthodox but he was a good man who believed in God and was faithful to his family and friends. We are all so shocked...

    family approval

Any converts ever have to deal with family members who feel very strongly about lgbtq+ issues, male priesthood, and the Orthodox Church? Basically, the "culture war" issues. I have a sister who has expressed strong disapproval about the stance of the EOC on these things. She went to my daughters...

Help understanding a word given to me

i dont have any gifts, but the furnace reminds me of the three youths. they were delivered from death in the furnace. the egg is a symbol of new life, particularly of the resurrection. i would meditate on those things in relation to your life situation.

    difficult sibling relationship

My sister let me know what she thinks about Christianity recently. Particularly that the church I attend is traditional and she does not agree with that (sexist, homophobic, etc). She is not a Christian, perhaps "spiritual but not religious" and keeps her spirituality private. I tried to explain...

    Baptism question

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I talked to my priest and he gave some suggestions including him finding someone. I decided to ask a couple he suggested on my own. She was the one who organized food for us. I hope they say yes, but we'll see.

    Baptism question

Hi all. It's been a while since I've posted here, so a short introduction: I converted about 2 years ago from a western form of Buddhism/agnosticism. My husband did not convert and has no apparent interest but has been supportive. I've had trouble connecting with people at my church my own age...

    Thank you

I am grateful for an answered prayer -- my daughter was born on the last day of November this year. I had an uncomplicated, natural birth. My husband had a vasectomy reversal to make it possible and we struggled so much to get to this point. Many tears and prayers, and I didn't think we'd make...

    Unequally yoked- please advise!

I married a nonbeliever from a secular home while I wasn't practicing the faith. Then I came back... let's say it isn't easy. We are expecting a child now and though he is approving, it is up to me alone to raise her to know God. Our family is already spiritually divided. i would not choose to...

Not how I pictured things going.

Thank you. I am considering an OCA church I went to last month for a liturgy and talk. Have you done this? I appreciate your prayers
