GOES-19 Goes Dark

The East’s main weather satellite (that was launched in June 2024) has ceased sending data.
This comes at a critical time as fires in Canada have been sending up clouds of smoke that have been traveling south and east into the northeast.

These technoscares are getting old.

When they're monitoring wildfires in Canada that are putting out enough smoke and ash to effect the air quality in Maryland... it's generally not a great thing when they go down.

The prevailing winds over North America won't carry the smoke and ash as far as Guam, so there isn't really an issue. Just more rumour mongering!

Note: For those unfamiliar with my posts that was sarcasm. Sarcasm is a clumsy weapon and really one that should be used in moderation, but sometimes, as darkness creeps across the land and temperatures fall, as my blood pressure spikes and the cooling fan on my Dell squeaks its way towards mortality, I think - why not?

From an article dated 7 June 2023:

We are working in close coordination with the Maryland Department of the Environment and Maryland Department of Health to monitor the impact that wildfires burning in Quebec, Canada are having on air quality both in Maryland and across the region.

The Maryland Department of the Environment is advising Marylanders to expect unhealthy air conditions today through at least Thursday as smoke and fine particles produced from the wildfires continue to spread over the region. Air quality is currently at unhealthy levels for everyone.

That logic makes no sense while there's a natural disaster going on right now that... yeah, it doesn't effect you so you won't care.

There's plenty more up there that are just as good.

I could understand you guys running for cover if you had all your eggs in GOES 19 basket.

But I'm confident -- (even if you guys aren't) -- that our technology is sufficient enough to save lives in Maryland.

One of your inventions broke.

Considering that peoples lives are literally in danger in parts of Canada and in Maryland because of the wildfire, I'd prefer to see this problem fixed rather than just dismissed with a callous "Eh, they can send up another one".
