  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

What did they teach you in school , flat or round earth?

I saw your link after I posted, but I was wanting @d taylor to back up his claims, if he could.
The correlation between lower rates of violence and teaching evolution is like the correlation between ice cream consumption and shark attacks.

Pick a year then pick a year in the 19, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's. Take 2013 and compare it with 1913, 1923, 1933, 1943, 1953, 1963

The correlation between years of republican presidents and school shootings doesn't prove Trump incites violence against school students. For example, it coincides with the pandemic. You can blame Trump for a lot of bad things in America, but I don't think school shootings is one of them.

It's interesting to compare the figures for homicides by firearms in the United States to similar homicides in other countries. For example, in 2017, there were 3.342 homicides involving firearms per 100,000 population, while here in the UK for the same year there were 0.048 homicides involving firearms per 100,000 population. That makes about 10,861 homicides involving firearms in the United States in 2017, compared with just 32 in the UK. That's a huge difference, even allowing for the greater population of the USA.

Of course. Partially, it's a matter of how available firearms are in each nation. But not entirely. Social factors matter. This is why the map of homicides in the U.S. looks as it does.

Notice that it's not entirely a "red state high/blue state low" result. Cities tend to have higher rates of homicides, so urbanized states tend to have higher homicide rates. Educational levels and average income also matter. Which, I think, is why blue states are generally less violent.

That's one of the things usually missed in these debates.

Guns are willingly abandoned after other cultural factors are corrected to make life feel safer.
