CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why would a decades old conviction for manslaughter, unrepeated, by someone who has paid her time and turned her life around be more evidence of being susceptible to corruption in office than someone someone who was corrupt while holding office?
Is there a point in stating an obvious thing which no one is disputing? If not, fine, but I wonder what the point of that would be.

Because it was a violent murder. In my opinion, she should not be making decisions that affect a city.

So no forgiveness, ever? Even though this violent crime for which she has paid has no real bearing on the actual job, she should be punished forever while the guy with 34 felony convictions gets rewarded.

I think it has a bearing on the job and I didn’t say anything about forgiving her. Tell me, would you let a child molester work at a day care center after he/she completes their sentence?

Wow talk about a straw man. I’ve heard many liberals here whine their heads off because of Trump’s white collar non violent convictions but a violent murderer is ok. Secondly your mischaracterization of Christians is not appreciated nor welcomed.

Child molesters are known to have deep-seated sexual drive for what they do.
Walker was an alcoholic, though it is also something that she will always deal with. It would be bad for her to work in a bar.
The violent death of a Canadian tourist 20 years ago was awful, but she was dealing with addiction, and then served her time, and stopped drinking.
She has turned her life around.
The job she is elected to is to be one of a group that would make decisions and she wants to make sure the voices of the homeless and others have their voice heard. It is not equivalent to putting a knife in her hand.

"Most leftists" aren't living and voting in Bangor, Maine.Lol was waiting for the inevitable. The problem is that most leftists here don’t see anything wrong with a killer being elected but have big problems with non violent white collar crime being elected.
But at least we've gotten to the point of agreeing the president did indeed commit his 34 felonies. That is progress in my book.

Not just a 34 time felon but also a man found liable of sexual assault, and a man found guilty of defrauding others, and lying on his taxes.
He has a lifetime of such behavior with no evidence he has changed his ways.

Maine has clearly demonstrated that they no longer have the ability or sense of understanding on how to properly govern. I propose that all future holders of public office in Maine be chosen by an unbiased committee made up of people who are not citizens of Maine consisting of 39 Republicans and a Democrat. This fair committee will keep the best interests of the State in mind while also providing good governance.

That is still mischaracterizing Christians. I don’t support him but others do simply because they might consider him to be the lesser of two evils. Secondly more than Christians support Trump so why not demonize the others?

It looks that way so far. And that’s where the rubber meets the road. Her crime was terrible and someone lost their life because she did not agree with what he said. Even a few years later the person is still dead. I’m just not sure, in my opinion, that she should be responsible for the well being of the population of a city. Again, this is my opinion.
And I wish her well. Hopefully she will continue with her progress.
