What you say about Anthony is correct, but there's a second motive people were expressing, and that is that it's an attack on cancel culture. People were basically saying "if you're going to try to ruin some private citizen's life because you don't agree with something they said or did, it could have the opposite effect - we'll make them rich".

Initial reports said the young victim was 5 years old, but the criminal complaint said he was 8. The child's father told police his son is autistic, and due to his disability, he doesn't understand typical social boundaries and requires intensive parental supervision. At some point while at the park in Rochester, the child took an applesauce pouch from someone else's diaper bag, it said.

The father saw this and chased him to try to retrieve the food pouch. The defendant also saw it and chased the child, who climbed on playground equipment to try to get away. She repeatedly called him the racial epithet, the complaint said, and grabbed the food item from him.

I don't know if cases involving angry people yelling the N-word at 8 year old kids with malice is necessarily the instances of cancel culture people should want to hitch their wagons to.

Perhaps a better use of that approach would be to fundraise for comedians who get the "cancel" treatment for jokes (that weren't done with malice) they told 5 years ago.

I personally wouldn't be giving the lady any money.

In general, I think it could be a decent strategy. I wouldn't want to "go after" my hated enemy if I thought it might just enrich them. As to this case in particular, we all live and work and move in different environments. Some people may be more fatigued than others.

If you had read the posts by Rob and I you'd know that need doesn't much enter into it. Although if the victim and her family have been doxed and are getting death threats and their home vandalized I suppose enough money to cover the costs of relocating to a different city would be needed.

A bit misleading, but still not great. The guy was sentenced when he was 20 but the crimes were committed when he was 15-16. This was a plea bargain as the prosecution window was closing. The 270 day sentence that Shiloh is 'facing" is the maximum but not what is likely at all.

Shei was 15 and 16 years old at the time of the sexual assaults and he was initially charged in juvenile court in 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, his case was pushed back to the point that prosecutors would soon lose jurisdictional authority to prosecute the case.

Charges were dismissed against Shei in those cases but were soon refiled. Shei was then given a plea deal that included his stay of adjudication and no prison time in exchange for him not challenging certification in adult court, which allowed for his continued prosecution, according to Olmsted County Senior Attorney Thomas Gort.
