One wonders if there isn't more to the story. Just maybe.
There is, but it still doesn't cast her in a particularly flattering light.
Basically, an 8 year old Somali boy took something from her bag and ran, and she chased him to try to get it back and she called him the N-word.
And when the cameras came out and started filming her and asking why she said it, she said something to the effect of "well, if he's acting like one..."
I assume many of the donors probably donated without knowing the full story, or were being given a very one-sided version of the story from right-wing youtube personalities that was probably attempting to frame it as "A black kid stole from her, and in a moment of frustration, she said something out of anger and is now having her life ruined"
It's also quite possible that it's mere "prove a point/make a statement" retaliation for the Karmelo Anthony fundraiser. I did see people (presumably using fake accounts) on Facebook posting things to the effect of "Oh, so it's okay to raise money for someone who actually killed someone else, but when the races are reversed it's unacceptable to raise money for someone who called someone a name for taking something from their purse?"
The fundraiser (which appears to have been taken down) was claiming that the money was for relocation. According to her, since the incident, she's gotten death threats and people have leaked her social security number...although there's no way to verify her claims about that.
