I’ve heard phrase like “white supremacist” “racist” “nazi” and “eugenics” being thrown around. All this because of a jeans ad with the phrase “Sydney Sweeney has good jeans”.
Also, singer Billie Eilish is receiving backlash for making an observation about her pale skin and blue eyes while in Ireland.
There’s something seriously wrong on the left when things like this are perceived as an attack on minorities of color.
I've seen some of that...
However, what I've seen more of is the vitriol aimed at "it's promoting an unrealistic body type as 'beauty'!"
...which, it's not.
One could've made that argument back in the 80's where they used to promote a look that was borderline anorexic, but that's not what's happening here.
This seems to be more of a "equity" based objection -- where people want the body types that require personal effort and sacrifice, and the ones that don't, to be viewed as "equally beautiful"... coming from the same mindsets that led to Rebel Wilson and Adele actually getting criticism for losing weight from the "Plus sized positivity community"
The irony was that those two were labelled as "role models" by that community when they merely existed in their plus-sized state.
However, when those two started doing things that involved personal dedication and sacrifice (dieting and hitting the gym), it made it clear that the particular community never saw them as role models, because if they did, they would've emulated those behaviors.
Role models used to be viewed as "a person who people should strive toward emulating because of an accomplishment of some sort", somewhere along the way, that concept got perverted, and "role model" simply became "famous person who embodies the thing I already am, so I don't have to do or change anything"
