Taylor has appeared on stage with Trump at campaign rallies in the past. But his attendance at the White House on Thursday comes as Trump faces increasing pressure over his ties to Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender

Trump signed an executive order on Thursday to reestablish the Presidential Fitness Test for American children and reinvigorate a national sports council.

Taylor and other figures from the sports world, including pro golfer Bryson DeChambeau and Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker joined Trump in the Roosevelt Room of the White House to become formal members of the council, known as the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.

Taylor was arrested in 2010 on rape and prostitution charges in connection with the assault of a 16-year-old girl. He pleaded guilty in 2011 to misdemeanor charges of sexual misconduct and patronizing a prostitute, was sentenced to six years of probation and ordered to register as a sex offender.

Sounds like pretty sloppy vetting. Has Trump said anything like he doesn't care about that, he wants Taylor anyways?

Pardons also seem to follow these rules. Supporting Trump is the most important quality.

Back in 2017 an Alabama state Auditor used the Bible to defend Roy Moore when he was accused of raping a 14 year old girl. The Alabama official said "the relationship would be akin to that of Joseph and Mary" and "Take the Bible: Zachariah and Elizabeth for instance Zachariah was extremely old to marry Elizabeth and they became the parents of John the Baptist. Also take Joseph and Mary. Mary was a teenager and Joseph was an adult carpenter. They became parents of Jesus. There’s just nothing immoral or illegal here. Maybe just a little bit unusual."

Perhaps someone will use the Bible to defend Lawrence Taylor in the same way.
